Omnia, Omnia, So the date is August 10, about 8 o'clock at nite and I left the states August 9 about 21 hours ago. I'm tired I'm confused I'm 6000 miles from home I don't know the language, I don't know anyone, and of course, I don't know where I'm going. But we have arrived at the Schutz American school. Now what. Well, I've got two suitcases and six even larger boxes that need to go to my “new” apartment and I really don't think I can get them up there I'm whipped, beat, exhausted, tired and still confused. I really didn't think I can carry my luggage up the last three flights of stairs to my new room, and then I hear this voice I can barely see this person. But I can tell by the voice and i can tell by the way this person speaks and you can tell by the way the tone of her voice that this person is in charge. (Saying Samia is in charge is like saying the sun is warm, its Samia’s way and thats the way it is.) And before I could turn around, the workers have grabbed all my boxes and luggage and its going up those stairs. And the voice says my name is Samia. and I tell her my name and I pick up the one piece of luggage thats left and I carry it up to my new apartment. And I know that I met someone very important, I did not know that I'd met my first friend in Egypt, my best friend in Egypt the person who would touch my heart in so many ways for so many reasons. That would come later. This story was my very first impression of Egypt, the best impression of Egypt, the most meaningful impression of Egypt. And it was all because of one person. how can one person, in one moment, in one brief meeting become so important and so profoundly touch another person’s life. I don’t know. But I do know she did. about three weeks ago,I began to think about my first nite in Egypt, I began to think about my friend Samia Bamia. and I began to think about my very first day in Egypt in Alex. The very first hours that I was in Egypt, and yes we landed at the “huge” Alexandria international Airport and it is a marvelous contemporary architectural wonder, and the terminal is so modern brand-new, but I had a feeling there are was more in store for me the night. Driving into Schutz I was not disappointed after our 45 minute journey from the airport pulling into Schutz, I was felt very much like we had pulled into an oasis of calm and safety. Schutz of course became so much more, than calm and safety, it became family and home. And who can imagine that one person has a heart so big that she can unite, comfort, make you laugh, help you adjust, and through sheer force of will make you a part of her family, her Schutz family. Which is not a small family. It's a family that includes 230 students their moms and dads, there Aunts, Uncles, cousins, nieces nephews, all of the workers at Schutz, all of the faculty at Schutz, all of the administrative staff at Schutz. so basically Samia Bamia makes you part her family which is about 4 million people, but who's counting. Samia will live in my heart, always Anna bahebek ya Samia Bamia Omnia i could of course bore you to tears with so many more memories and stories, maybe later. Buffi and I are stunned and in shock. And we have cried many tears today. If we can do anything for you and your family just ask. Whats mine is yours. et Fad dat Ma ba’d ad-diq illa ‘l-faraj

I first met your mom when I arrived at Schutz after 18 hours in the air from VT. She was showing me the apartment that she and her crew had refurbished. I was so happy to see how beautiful it was and to be greeted by such a beautiful, intelligent, caring woman. She was so proud of the transformation and I was so appreciative. From that moment on, your mom was like a guardian angel who looked after me and Bonnie. And what a radiant guardian angel she was! I wish I had video but as long as I live I will have a clear picture of your mom from that first moment.

You, sweet Omnia, embody so much of her. Her beauty, her love for others, her infectious smile. She will truly live on in you. And your sister and brother. And your children. Samia worked very hard at Schutz but you were always her priority. When ever she and I get together you, your sister Amira and your brother Mohamed were the focus of our conversation. I appreciated Samia for being my friend and a trustful sister.

Translation: Anyone who sees Aunt Samia has to be happy. Even though we met just a few times but I'm so sad with these news. She was beautiful and being with her, her laugh and optimism and what I also knew today that she was patient and accepted what God has written for her. She called me to pay condolences for my dad and never mentioned her sickness.
It's true that if God loves someone, he makes people love him. May She rest in peace and God grant patience to her daughters, her family and loved ones who are part of my family and people I adore.
