In the summer months, we do a few informal swimrun training sessions along the Hayama and Zushi coastline. We swim in the marked swimming areas of Ohama (Hayama-koen), Isshiki, Morito, and Zushi beaches, and then run between each area. To keep things simple, we leave running shoes on the beach, and swim inside the perimeter ropes marking out the swimming area. There is no need to use a swim buoy inside the swim areas.
Apart from being great training, swimrun is excellent for the burning heat of summer. The swims allow you to cool down between runs, and the runs stop you getting cold in the swims.

1. Trisuit or tri shorts and top - you need something you can both swim and run in comfortably.
2. Swim cap, goggles
3. Running shoes and socks - the socks should be easy to put on over damp feet,
4. Small towel - we put on running shoes by a river on Isshiki and Morito beaches, so you need a towel to dry off your feet.
1. Water flask you can hold while running
2. Run cap and sunglasses
3. Running vest - some people prefer to carry everything in a pack, while others just stuff swim cap, etc, in their trisuit.
4. Waterproof case for valueable carried in a waist belt under your trisuit
1. Jellyfish protection and sunscreen - Safesea offers some protection from stings; more info here
2. Cuts- there are rocks under the water in some areas, so enter carefully. There are small shells attached to the swim area ropes and buoys so be careful to avoid them.
3. Traffic - we run along short sections of the R207 coastroad which is narrow in places. Always try to run on the right side of the road so you can see the oncoming traffic.
