Dynamics of karma on a birth chart

Luminaries and rising signs create altogether elemental combinations in a birth chart. What combination should we consider in the first place? Starting from there, which pathway should we follow in our readings? This post complements Elements and karma, one of the articles in a special series about Astrology & Karma on medium.com.

If you read the series, you surely know that when a reader separates a point of astrological interest from the rest of the components, that reading is going to provide a wrong interpretation. If you're interested in looking at particular details, you need the most comprehensive possible understanding about what a configuration as such displays, and the way the energy goes in an expanding motion across the space, in specific distributions and concentrations.

You won't reach a comprehensive understanding either by adding signifiers but reading states and processes simultaneously, to finally interpret each signifier by always considering it inside of a relation with those very states and processes as well as other planets and points of interests.

Polarities (exoteric and esoteric ones), birth tendencies (South Node of the Moon), projections in the evolutional axis (North Node), mental orientation during development (solar rising sign), karmic memory (Moon) and the vivid development of that memory (Sun) have to be combined in unison to, finally, look at karma such as it is expressed in our vital experiences. The best would also be counting on what each person could tell about all this, so we can include it as motion to be read on a chart.

Remembering the esoteric polarity the Sun and Moon are part of, a visual way to perceive the elemental karma that characterizes both the state of birth energy as well as the processes developing it, is by placing the luminaries and rising signs in the vertex of the square below, according to their natural elements. Pathways of transformations are in between vertex, so if you want to leave aside your notes, you just have to remember motion:

"Getting closer to leave" could define the impulse that took him into this world. The inherited forms, especially those related to the way of outer developments, would be abandoned (Moon-South Node: polarization), and what could have come out from them wouldn't last for too long (Moon-North Node: depletion). The consciousness would be one that will bring other circumstances.

Speaking by himself, any traditional or basic form that he had perceived or easily incorporated would be dismissed or not taken into account (ST-South Node: polarization). And the products wouldn't flourish (Asc-South Node: neutralization) or would be quickly finished (ST-North Node: depletion). And moreover! It seems that the karmic pathway wouldn't be the same after his life: a critical spirit, focused on details, would bring reasons and provide an ordering in such a way that the eventual seeds from the past wouldn't grow up (Asc-South Node). Meanwhile, the effects expected to appear in the future showed up during the present time, specifically the achievements, results, developments, and capitalizations (Asc-North Node: update).

So, you see an update in the dynamics related to the North Node in Capricorn. Because it is interacting with Virgo (rising sign), all related to the study of functions, systems, orderings and logics might have a quick development although not a partial one, and was implemented since the beginning in an organized, productive and efficient way. Along with the transmutation of the Moon, the South Node in Cancer was updated too, which raised ancient emotional echoes, the feeling of belonging to, and specific ways to start or nurture things. But those echoes wouldn't be admitted (ST-South Node: polarization) or favoured (Asc-South Node), in fact they had been separated because of birth karma, and even annulled by transmutation! (LT-North Node: neutralization).

Time passing by would have shown the way the birth polarization of the Moon might have been integrated with Cancer's update during development. This is the way Jobs might have experienced an inaudible river which he didn't look for hearing either, a constant source of tendencies he had set apart since before birth time and to which, even later, channeled towards a good amount of energy by refuting, contradicting and criticizing, as well as completely redefining and implementing what he nurtured in his own terms.

As you see, considering over time although separately motion and polarization towards an update related to the Moon could take us to misinterpretations, for example if concluding the inheritance of developmental or formative models would be raised again, manifested or recovered in concrete ways (South Node in Cancer, in X). We could say it would be slightly evoked, like a hardly avoidable circumstance, but not that it would be materialized.

Among tendencies of change, some of them could be in tune (or not) with each other, in a higher or lesser degree. In Jobs, one of those tendencies was developing solar karma (from Water to Fire). The other flow contributing to leave behind the inheritance of the mentioned node, although in a lesser degree, was the rising sign in an Earth sign.

Considering the basic dynamics, you may easily deepen even more into the circumstances, events and qualities of the karmic development on the chart. The Earth signs in I, V and IX houses were doubly involved during the transitions to be free from karma (Sun in Water and Moon in Fire), whereas their rulers characterized the notes associated to processes currently in development.
