As our department name suggests, we work on water related issues from an interdisciplinary point of view. Floods are one of the recurring disaster that our country faces every year. Monsoon Low Pressure Systems (LPS) that mostly form over north Bay of Bengal and move north-westwards into the land are a major cause of heavy rain and associated flood. Even though numerous studies have been conducted to analyze and understand these LPS, their relation with flood is seldom studied. Under the expertise of Prof. Govindasamy Bala and Prof. V. V. Srinivas we are trying to understand the large-scale factors that influence the intensity, frequency and tracks of LPS and assess potential flood risk over Indian subcontinent due to LPS under the current and future climate change scenarios.
