At the San Adreas fault, in California, there is a lot going on. The San Adreas Fault is the place where the pacific plate and the north american plate meet (pic 1). This creates fault line. At this fault line the pacific plate is sliding past the north american plate. How do the plates move? The plates float on top of the upper mantel, the core is a lot hotter, it heats the magma and the magma rises, then it cools and sinks down again. This happens over and over, which creates a convection current (pic 2). The San Andreas fault creates great mountains such as the San Bernardino mountains and the San Gabriel mountains and are commonly called the Transverse Range. These mountains are lush with forests and wild life such as, mountain lions, black bears, wood peckers, deer and many more. But it can also create earthquakes. I chose this location because it affects a lot of people in California , including me, people from LA to San Francisco. If the earthquake went off right now it would cause a lot of damage, such as the I 15 interstate would be closed because it goes right through the San Andreas fault line at the Cajon pass (pic 3). Another interesting thing is that the Pacific Crest Trail goes through the San Andreas fault as well (pic 5).
