WHO WE ARE
Elizabeth Bell & Nicole Raftis, both registered occupational therapists, have 60 years of clinical experience between them.
Elizabeth has 31 years of experience as an occupational therapist. She graduated from the School of Rehabilitation at Queen's University in 1991, and has worked in the field of pediatrics since. She is the founder and director of kids THERAPY in Guelph. Elizabeth completed her Masters of Health Science in Bioethics in 2017. She is committed to providing ethical services for the families she supports. Elizabeth continues to provide clinical consultations as she currently pursues her PhD in Health Sciences Education at McGill University. She and her husband have raised 3 lovely daughters, 2 of whom are recent Queen's university graduates while her third is in 2nd year engineering @ Western University - we have forgiven her for not choosing Queens ;)
Nicole is also a 1995 graduate from Queen's School of Rehabilitation, with 27 years of experience as a pediatric OT. Nicole has worked in children's facilities in Ottawa, Vancouver, and internationally. Her experience on the Brain Injury Unit and Substance Exposure Team at Sunnyhill Health Center, as well as her time working on the Mental Health Units at the Children's Hospital of Eastern Ontario, developed her interest in supporting children with mental health and wellness. She has completed extra training to support children using psychotherapy strategies. She is currently in private practice in the Guelph area and directs the OT program for Pathways Ponies (Therapy sessions with equine movement & psychotherapy). She and her husband have raised 3 well-rounded young adults, currently in Gr. 9, 12, and 3rd year engineering @ Queens.
Elizabeth & Nicole have worked together for 12 years and have both reached a point in their career where they would like to share their experience to support families, teachers, and future OTs. Through their online library of TREEO Tool Kits & Self-Paced Courses, they strive to share their knowledge and favorite resources.
WHAT WE DO
TREEO believes in providing resources to help kids develop foundational skills that contribute to their wellness and ultimately contribute to the ability to participate in the 3 core occupations of childhood:
Play
Learning
Lifeskills
We also believe that caregiver and community partner education and skill building has a significant impact on a child's development. We are committed to creating practical resources that help parents, teachers and therapists feel confident and competent in their ability to support the children they care about.
Nicole & Elizabeth are both Assistant Clinical Professors (Adjunct) for the School of Rehabilitation Science at McMaster University. They believe in staying abreast of current research and best practice. The students they supervise have helped to create some of the evidence-based resources for the online library of TREEO Tool Kits & Self-Paced Courses.
