If you want powerful bass, deep sound isolation for blocking cabin noise on a plane, and an IPX8 waterproof rating that survives submersion, choose TREBLAB WX8; if you need situational awareness, all-day comfort for open-ear listening, and the latest Bluetooth 5.4 connectivity, choose Monster Open Ear AC311.
• TREBLAB WX8: Delivers rich, immersive audio with physical ear tips that block outside noise, but creates a sealed sensation in your ear canal that some find fatiguing over long periods.
• Monster Open Ear AC311: Offers a stress-free, non-invasive fit that keeps you aware of your surroundings with air conduction technology, though it sacrifices passive noise isolation entirely.
• The TREBLAB WX8 is the pick for travelers who need to drown out engine drone and gym-goers needing sweat-proof durability.
• The Monster Open Ear AC311 is the pick for commuters who must hear traffic, runners prioritizing safety, and anyone sensitive to ear pressure.
The TREBLAB WX8 is engineered for people who demand a complete audio experience without external interference. Its design relies on soft silicone ear tips that create a physical seal within the ear canal. This isn't just about keeping the buds from falling out; it is a functional feature that provides passive sound isolation. When you are seated in the middle row of a commercial jet, this seal does the heavy lifting to dampen the constant roar of engines and crying babies. If your primary goal is to immerse yourself in a movie or podcast while traveling, this in-ear architecture is the superior choice. You simply cannot get that level of acoustic separation with an open design.
Battery life is another critical factor where this model shines. With a total playtime of up to 28 hours including the charging case, you can easily survive a cross-country flight or a multi-day business trip without hunting for an outlet. The charging case itself is compact, measuring roughly 1.77 inches in length, making it easy to slip into a pocket or carry-on bag. Furthermore, the IPX8 waterproof rating is a significant differentiator. Unlike standard water resistance, this earbud can be submerged up to three feet in water. Whether you are caught in a sudden downpour during a run or accidentally drop them in a sink, they are built to handle extreme moisture conditions that would damage lesser devices.

However, this product is not for everyone. The reliance on a physical seal means that if you have sensitive ear canals or struggle with earwax buildup, the in-ear placement might cause irritation after several hours. Additionally, because the sound is isolated, you lose the ability to hear announcements or conversations around you unless you pause your media. If you prefer to listen to music while still hearing your environment, this closed-back approach will feel restrictive. It is best suited for those who view their headphones as a personal sanctuary rather than a tool for environmental awareness.
The Monster Open Ear AC311 takes a fundamentally different approach by abandoning the seal entirely. Instead of pushing into your ear canal, these buds rest gently on the outer rim, utilizing a large 16.2mm dynamic driver to project sound through air conduction. This design ensures that your ears remain completely unobstructed. There is no pressure, no "plugged" feeling, and no risk of pain after hours of wear. This makes it an ideal solution for anyone who needs to stay alert to their surroundings, whether that is monitoring traffic while cycling, hearing colleagues in an open office, or catching gate announcements at an airport without removing their headphones.
Safety and comfort are the primary selling points here. The open-ear design eliminates the risk of damaging inner ear structures caused by prolonged in-ear pressure. The device features an ENC (Environmental Noise Cancellation) system specifically tuned to enhance voice clarity during calls, even in busy environments. While it does not block background noise like the TREBLAB, it focuses on ensuring that when you do speak, the other person hears you clearly. The battery life is equally impressive, offering up to 30 hours of total playback time, which covers almost any daily routine or travel itinerary. The inclusion of Bluetooth 5.4 also promises faster pairing and a more stable connection compared to older generations, reducing latency issues during video calls or gaming.
Despite its advantages, this model has clear limitations regarding audio fidelity in noisy settings. Because there is no physical barrier to block sound, the bass response will naturally feel less punchy, and ambient noise will bleed directly into your listening experience. If you try to listen to music on a loud airplane or a busy subway, you will likely have to crank the volume to uncomfortable levels to compete with the background noise. It is also only rated IPX5, meaning it can handle sweat and light rain but should not be submerged or subjected to heavy water pressure. This product is perfect for active users who prioritize safety and comfort over deep immersion, but it fails as a dedicated travel companion for noisy environments.
• Best for Airplane Travel: Choose TREBLAB WX8. The passive noise isolation created by the silicone tips is essential for blocking out the high-frequency drone of jet engines, whereas the Monster AC311 will let that noise flood your ears.
• Best for Situational Awareness: Choose Monster Open Ear AC311. If you need to hear approaching vehicles, public address systems, or family members while wearing headphones, the open-ear design is the only safe option.
• Best for Heavy Sweat or Water Exposure: Choose TREBLAB WX8. Its IPX8 rating allows for submersion, making it far more durable for intense workouts, swimming, or unexpected weather than the IPX5-rated Monster buds.
• Best for Long-Term Comfort: Choose Monster Open Ear AC311. Users who suffer from ear fatigue or sensitivity to in-ear pressure will find the weightless, non-invasive fit of the AC311 much more suitable for all-day wear.
• Best for Call Clarity in Wind: Choose Monster Open Ear AC311. The ENC technology is specifically designed to isolate your voice from wind and background chatter during outdoor activities.
• Best Battery Capacity: Both are excellent, but the Monster Open Ear AC311 edges slightly ahead with a stated 30-hour total playtime compared to the 28 hours of the TREBLAB, though both easily cover long trips.
• Best Audio Immersion: Choose TREBLAB WX8. If you want to feel the full impact of the bass and hear every detail of a mix without external distraction, the sealed in-ear design provides a richer, deeper soundstage.
• Best for Modern Connectivity: Choose Monster Open Ear AC311. With Bluetooth 5.4, it offers the most recent wireless standards for stability and speed, while the TREBLAB uses the solid but older Bluetooth 5.1.
For my own use, particularly when I am thinking about in ear headphones for airplane scenarios, I would buy the TREBLAB WX8. The ability to physically block out the chaotic noise of a cabin is non-negotiable for me when I need to sleep or focus on content. The IPX8 waterproofing also gives me peace of mind that I can take them anywhere without worrying about humidity or sweat. However, if I were planning a day out running errands where I need to talk to friends and hear traffic, I would switch to the Monster Open Ear AC311 for the sake of safety and comfort. Ultimately, if your priority is getting away from the world, go with TREBLAB; if your priority is staying connected to the world, go with Monster.
Yes, but for different reasons. The TREBLAB WX8 is better for blocking out engine noise due to its in-ear seal, while the Monster AC311 allows you to hear boarding announcements without taking them off.
No, they do not provide passive noise isolation. They rely on Environmental Noise Cancellation (ENC) to improve call quality, but you will still hear background sounds while listening to music.
Yes, the IPX8 rating means they can be submerged up to 3 feet in water, making them safe for swimming and showering, unlike the IPX5-rated Monster AC311.
The Monster Open Ear AC311 offers up to 30 hours of total playtime with the case, while the TREBLAB WX8 offers 28 hours, making them nearly identical for daily use.
