Committees

Committees are where all the magic happens. Each committee is lead by a Project Manager who meets with his/her/their team as needed to complete tasks. To join a committee, please contact the Project Manager. If there is no Project Manager and you'd like to be that person, please contact Missy at thomasmama2007@gmail.com

Special shout out to Mrs. Vicki for being our teacher liaison for PTO! That's an overwhelming "committee"!

Directory

In the past, TRCS managed a directory with contact information of families and staff. This directory allowed families to reach out to each other for play dates or to ask questions. We haven’t produced one for awhile, but we’d like to bring it back. We need someone with the skills to take the information and make it into a usable format. In the past, it’s been a booklet. Moving forward, it can continue to be that or it can be electronic (with a printable option).

Community/Social Events

Traditionally, TRCS hosted a beginning of year potluck at a local park. Families are asked to bring a food item and we spend the afternoon together at a park. We have used both Valle Crucis and Junaluska parks in the past. Because of the low maintenance and cost of community events like this, a motivated team could plan multiple outings during the year. They can be more potlucks or it could be after school Wednesdays at Rocky Knob, local hikes, Greenway bike riding, a pick up soccer game, volunteering at local agencies, a campout, sledding, etc.

Project Manager: Waiting for you to volunteer for the position!!

Big Events (Peace Feast and End of Year Party)

Peace Feast is an annual TRCS community event held in November or early December. It is a time for the community to come together. Traditionally, there has been a meal, silent auction, 8th grade student fundraiser, and entertainment. Donations for the food and silent auction items are solicited from the High Country community. Money from this event goes to the general TRCS budget, but PTO can in turn request funds for future events such as the End of Year Party.

The End of the Year Party is held in May or early June. Traditionally, it was held on the TRCS campus, but last year Brookshire Park was a HUGE success and a much better space to fit everyone. There is typically blow ups, snacks such as fruit and popcorn, and various stations such as tie dye, tattoos, colored hair spray, a book exchange, etc. Last year screen printing shirts was a new, exciting addition. Money for this event can be requested from the Board of Directors.

Box Tops

This is a great project for an adult/child team. This team collects and submits box tops that the school community saved over the semester.

New Events (Otter Dash and Center 45 Sleepover)

The Board of Directors have developed great ideas for two new TRCS community events this year. One is the Otter Dash. This run will take place on the TRCS campus. Participants will do a 1 mile dash down Archie Carroll Road and younger kids can collect pledges to run laps on Coach Pack’s track. Another cool event is the middle school Center 45 Sleepover. All middle schoolers will be invited to participate in the event for $5. They can earn cool rewards by collecting donations for the school. Rewards will be based on how much money is raised and can include things like t-shirts, hats, etc. Proceeds for both events will go into the TRCS operating budget for needs that arise during the year.

Campus Clean Up

Each year TRCS hosts 2 campus clean ups: one any time in the fall and one right before Open House in the spring. This is a time for the community to come together to help spruce up the campus. This team will work with school staff to develop a list of projects that need to be completed.

Garden

We are fortunate to have a school garden at TRCS. An App State student, Olivia, is the manager of the garden and would love help ensuring our garden is a success.

Project Manager: Janett Castillo - nettcastillo@gmail.com

Community Education

In the past, we would sometimes have community education nights. We would invite experts in to educate families about various relevant topics. Sometimes, these experts are parents. This is another way to create community, broaden our knowing, and share our expertise.

Teacher/Staff Appreciation

There are 2 official staff appreciation events each year. These are week long events where families are asked to contribute some form of appreciation each day and one day typically includes a breakfast or lunch for staff. In addition to these 2 weeks, this team can develop other formalized appreciation measures for staff, students, community, partners, etc.

Community Outreach

This project will participate in community events to show the High Country what TRCS is all about. These events will not only let the broader community know who we are, but it will provide opportunities for TRCS families to connect through shared activities.

TRCS Sign

Each week the sign out front on lower campus needs to be changed. This is a great job for an adult and child to do together. Messages can come from the school or PTO. There can be one primary person who does it or two people who alternate.

Project Manager: Janett Castillo - nettcastillo@gmail.com

Storytelling

TRCS has some amazing stories. The ones that tell how engaged we are in the classrooms, the ones that tell how we support our communities, the ones that tell what great people we are. We want you to help tell our stories. We'll collect pictures and stories to post on TRCS's social media. Do you have a story? Contact Andrea today!

Project Manager: Andrea Suarez - suarezae@appstate.edu

Sustainability

Are you interested in finding more ways TRCS can be sustainable? This team will explore all our options to implement new ideas.

Project Manager: Jen Maxwell - jenerics2004@gmail.com

Fundraising

Do you love raising money? Two Rivers is dependent on fundraising to supplement state and federal budgets. Our fundraising efforts allow us to have events like Peace Feast and End of Year Party, help families in need, support teachers, supplement field trips, etc.

Project Manager: Could be you!!!

Dinner Out Nights

This role contacts local restaurants that sponsor community nights where they donate part of their profits of the night to local organizations/schools. Once these events are scheduled, this committee would invite the TRCS community to come out to eat at that restaurant on that night.
