Our mission is to make continuous improvements in areas such as transport, energy, and water. The following are our specific commitments in relation to Waste Management and Biodiversity.
Litter & Waste
To have a litter free campus by encouraging everyone to use bins provided and quickly removing any litter that does arise.
• To reduce the amount of waste that is generated on campus by;
making sustainable decisions around procurement of goods.
encouraging everyone to use re-usable cups, water bottles and lunch utensils.
re-using teaching materials whenever possible for example folders, timber, clay etc.
segregate all recyclable materials such as paper, cardboard, cans, bottles etc.
composting on-site all organic material such as plant clippings, coffee, wood shavings
reduce printing of handouts and documents by using Moodle and SharePoint.
Biodiversity
To protect and enhance the biodiversity on campus and to encourage our staff, students, and community develop an appreciation for our natural environment by;
Planting & maintaining a wide range of trees, shrubs and herbaceous plants with a strong focus on native plants.
Creating many different habitats to support a wide range of insects, birds and mammals.
Record habitats and species on-site and share this knowledge with all staff and students.
Maintain campus grounds using sustainable management practices including IPM.
Encourage the use of our natural environment in everyday teaching and learning.
Engaging with the local community to create an awareness of the biodiversity that we have, and an appreciation for the value this has for our wellbeing.
