Systematic Theology
WELCOME.
We extend an invitation for you to join us on a journey, as we explore The Word of God through the lens of Systematic Theology. Our hope is that these lessons will bless you, ignite a deeper passion for the Lord within you, and give you the courage to proclaim The Good News of salvation through Jesus Christ, our Savior.
Why study theology?
In the history of the church, theology was regarded as the most superior and valuable subject for study, and pastors made significant efforts to educate their congregations on the intricacies of biblical truth by creating question-and-answer teaching tools called catechisms, in particular, the Heidelberg Catechism and the Westminster Catechism.
Systematic theology is the method of studying God's word in a way that gathers the pieces from all scripture to unify our understanding of doctrine, and when all the doctrines come together they form a cohesive, organized picture of what God's word teaches us about who He is and life. Systematic theology does not aim to impose a particular philosophy or system onto scripture. Rather, its purpose is to extract the teachings of scripture and arrange them in a structured and topical manner.
Studying systematic theology comprehensively brings us closer to God and strengthens the church, while also providing a well-rounded worldview, providing a foundation of truth. By delving deeply into systematic theology, the church can connect personal experiences with God's objective truth, which informs our understanding of reality.
Our Lord extends an invitation for us to journey alongside Him on the path toward Himself. As we journey, we grow more acquainted with Him, and in moments of weakness, when our knees buckle, our burdens weigh heavily upon us, and perils confront us on the road, we find Him to be our ever-present help. Though we may sometimes lose focus and stumble upon obstacles, or encounter darkness on the road that obscures our vision, we recognize His voice and trust that He is with us. The more we walk with Him, the more our confidence in Him grows, and we begin to resemble Him as we learn about His ways - how He walks, fights, loves, judges, thinks, gives mercy, and remains faithful to His word. So we can share His word boldly and without reservation. The study of God, or theology, entails exploring His character and all that He has revealed in the scriptures.
