In 2020, the Committee on Paratransit was sunsetted, with its objectives subsumed into three existing committees: the Standing Committee on Rural, Intercity Bus, and Specialized Transportation (AP055), Innovative Public Transportation Services and Technologies (AP020), and Accessible Transportation and Mobility (AME50). Through the efforts of AP055, the Paratransit Committee will continue as a Joint Subcommittee.

The charter of the committee was to provide leadership in identifying, conducting, and disseminating research on current and emerging policy, planning, implementation, and operating factors concerned with the paratransit modes. Generally, paratransit systems are demand responsive and operate on flexible routes and/or schedules. Examples include dial-a-ride operations, taxis and jitneys in both general and special transit uses, including ADA-complementary paratransit operations.
