TRB is moving forward with a new organizational structure the sun has set on ACP20 - Committee on Freeway Operations, Jun 2025 . No mid-year meeting.
The Emerging Freeway Operations Concepts Subcommittee is responsible for identifying, collecting and advocating the potential for new and emerging freeway operations related concepts.
We are excited to announce the release of the Emerging Freeway Operations Concepts Form on the National Operations Center of Excellence (NOCoE) website.
Born out of TRB’s Freeway Operations Committee (AHB20), this form is intended to capture concepts that are being developed or implemented in the transportation operations industry. For many years the Freeway Operations Committee included sharing of Status Reports from committee members and friends. These reports provided an opportunity to identify and share activities being undertaken. This sharing led to other members building off the lessons learned and resulted in significant advancements in the early development of the industry. As the industry matured, the committee stopped doing Status Reports a number of years ago. This form is intended to provide an opportunity to again create a forum for the sharing of new ideas, lessons learned and other information useful to the operations community. An emerging freeway operations concept should contain elements such as, but not limited to:
New ITS technologies
Improved business processes
Performance management/measurement
Organization and workforce concepts
Culture and Collaboration
Our goal is to capture the good work being done by the freeway operations community and to enhance knowledge transfer among practitioners by providing a forum to share this information. And, while NOCoE also houses a Research in Operations database for long-term research projects, the Emerging Freeway Operations Concept Form is intended to capture the good work you are doing now that has been or can be readily deployed.
We encourage you to submit your ideas and projects and to continue to utilize this resource going forward to help improve the broader transportation system. Visit the National Operations Center of Excellence (NOCoE) website often to view new concepts that have been posted using the link above.
