August 27 Full research problem statements due to AASHTO Research Subcommittee, to be sent to Committee on Safety for review
November 1 Research problem statements due from AASHTO to NCHRP
Research problem statements can also be submitted for consideration for NCHRP funding by individual state DOTs, and those do not need to follow the process or deadlines for the Committee on Safety (but they’re still due to NCHRP by November 1).
Additional funding sources include NCHRP Synthesis, BTSCRP, AAA Foundation for Traffic Safety, and others.

April 30-May 2 Research Subcommittee meets to rank research ideas (AASHTO Committee on Safety Meeting)
May 30 Research Subcommittee sends ranking and comments on research ideas back to authors
August 30 Full research problem statements due to Research Subcommittee, to be sent to Committee on Safety for review
