ABC Research
The ABC projects in the Research Tracking Spreadsheet previously created by the TRB ABC Subcommittee have been transferred to the ABC-UTC's ABC Research Database (https://abc-utc.fiu.edu/resources/project-research-databases/). If you are involved with or aware of any completed, ongoing, or proposed ABC research projects, please submit them in the ABC Research Database.
Each year the TRB ABC Joint Subcommittee submits its #1 Research Need Statement (RNS) for funding consideration. Below is status of the submitted RNSs.
2022 RNS #1: FY 2024, "Development of Research Roadmap for Technological Advancements in Bridge Design and Construction" - Under discussion in 2021-2022 by the AASHTO Technical Committee for Construction (T-4). Submitted to Domenic Coletti, Chair of the TRB Bridges and Structures Section, on 03/15/2022 as the Subcommittee's #1 RNS; Domenic will be presenting the RNS to the AASHTO Technical Committee for Research (T-11) during the AASHTO Committee on Bridges and Structures Annual Meeting in June 2022.
2021 RNS #1: FY 2023, "Guidance for Efficient Timelines and Incentives/Disincentives for Accelerated Bridge Construction Projects," in collaboration with TRB Construction of Bridges and Structures, AKC40 - Endorsed in 2021 by the AASHTO Technical Committee for Construction (T-4). In 2021 the RNS was balloted out by the AASHTO Committee on Bridges and Structures and ranked as its #2 priority. It was funded as NCHRP 10-118, dependent on the level of funding available from the Federal-aid apportionments for FY 2023.
2020 RNS #1: FY 2022, "Development of Prefabricated Concrete Barrier Systems for Accelerated Bridge Construction" - Endorsed in 2020 as the #1 RNS by the AASHTO Technical Committee for Construction (T-4) and as the #2 RNS by the AASHTO Technical Committee on Guardrail and Bridge Rail (T-7). It was then ranked #2 by the AASHTO Committee on Bridges and Structures, and subsequently funded as depend on the level of funding available from the Federal-aid apportionments for FY 2023. The NCHRP 22-56 panel held its first meeting in last November / early December 2021. Proposals have been received in response to the RFP.
