This is the main character of our Bigmode game jam entry, Clyde: Breach of Contrast. I wanted to make a character who was expressive and distinct, but also very simple so he would be easy to iterate on throughout the jam process. I saved myself a lot of weightpainting time by rigging and modeling him more like a robot, with distinct individual parts rather than one large mesh. I was able to get away with this since the style of the game is unlit and simple, so the illusion holds up alright. I also got a chance to use my facial expression system in a game for the first time, although his various expressions do not show up in the sketchfab model. He went through a few iterations along the way but his overall design formed pretty quickly. I did not have any concept art to start with for this character, to save some time I figured I would just figure him out as I went along. As far as the animations go I was heavily inspired by Metal Gear Solid 3: Snake Eater. I really wanted to try and recreate the way Snake moves around in that game and I feel like I was able to recreate that while still evolving it to fit this characters distinct look and abilities. Overall I am very happy with this character and I think I was able to achieve most of my goals I had when creating him.Â
