Thailand is the first country I visited in South East Asia. Do you remember Nicolas and Emma from the Silver Brumby in Thredbo, Mount Kosciuszko National Park? Nicolas is a rock climber enthusiast as well as Antoine, one of the other guys working with me at the Sylver Brumby. They motivated me to join them in Tonsai and Railay beach to rock climb for a week once the winter season is over. I am not really into rock climbing but this spot is known worldwide for its famous sandstone cliffs above the sea. It would be a pity to miss this natural wonder!
I landed a week in advance and I don't really know how to kill time between now and Tonsai. After two days hanging in Krabi I meet Jack, Tobias and Christian in the guesthouse. They plan to go to Koh Phi Phi islands which doesn't seem bad at all. I stayed 3 days there and it was enough. During the day most people chill on the sand beaches or go for a long tail boat tour to Maya Bay: The famous Beach movie. However during the night it's a whole different world. Stages on the beach, fireball shows, big sound system and hundreds of Europeans who are here to party hard which is great when you're in your twenties. After such debauchery it's time to get fit again in Tonsai and Railay beach with Nicolas, Antoine and their friends!
I only have two weeks left before my visa expires. These two weeks on sand beaches were great but I miss the mountains. I'd like to go trekking for a few days and go in remote places far from the crowd. I found a couchsurfing host in Chang Mai for two days. He's already hosting Francisca (a brazilian girl) with who I spend most of my days exploring the area but I feel bored in the city. Temples are all the same and I don't really enjoy the "city atmosphere". Later I meet back my friends from Krabi in a guest house and together we do a 3 days ecological trek in Doi Inthanon National Park before going to Pai, another backpacker place where I feel a lot more in my element: Nature.
I spent my last two days in Chang Rai to do some tourism (The White Temple and in opposition the Ban daam Museum also known as the Black Temple).
Wat Rong Khun (the White Temple) is made by a single artist: Chalermchai Kositpipat. This man started to finance this temple with its own money. His art construction is known as one of the most outstanding buddhist temples in the world. The project is supposed to be finished by 2070!!! The artist is making this temple as an offering to Buddha which he hopes will give him immortal life. I think his work already made his name immortal!
