Nathu La is a mountain pass in the Dongkya Range of the Himalayas between China's Yadong County in Tibet, and the Indian states of Sikkim.
During the end of 13th centuery, Lama Sangdag Dorje, the lineage of Guru Chewang blessed the land and subsquently during Thinley Gyatsho, the son of Lama Urgen Gyatsho, who as per the wishes of his forfather built the temple over the small lake in 18th centuery, which is presently known as Sang Naga Yangtze Monastey (Rinchenpong Monastey)
Rinchenpong Dak Bungalow was built in 1830. It is truly a heritage dak bungalow with extensive verandah perched on the lush lawn and near the Poision Lake. This British bungalow was renovated with modern furnishings recently to accommodate guests.
The lake is named Poison, it is said that during the colonial period, the indigenous primitive tribe Lepcha of the area poisoned the entire water with the help of roots and plants containing toxins in order to defend against British colonial rule.
