Ireland
Ireland is a delightful country. The people are friendly and the countryside is beautiful. We visited Northern and Southern Ireland. We traveled with my daughter, who will be attending art school in Ireland. We are thrilled that she will get to live in another country. It is an amazing opportunity. Our first major stop was Slane Abbey. We had a great time taking photos of the area and enjoying the scenery. We then visited Belfast in Northern Ireland. We loved seeing all the political art. There is a lot of support for Palestinians, because they have a deep-seated historical bond between Irish nationalists in Northern Ireland and Palestinians. This is rooted in their shared experiences of displacement, resistance against what both view as colonial powers, and, at times, militant alliances. "The island of Ireland comprises the Republic of Ireland, which is a sovereign country, and Northern Ireland, which is part of the United Kingdom. The Republic of Ireland endured a hard-fought birth. Ruled from Great Britain since the 13th century, its citizens, many of them suppressed Catholics, struggled to remove themselves from British domination for the next several hundred years." There is a rich history and in the region that is worth exploring. The political art will give you an idea about the struggles between the Irish and the British. Most of the street art was explored in Belfast. We then went to the Dark Hedges on our way to Derry. The Dark Hedges consists of two rows of over 150 beech trees planted in the 18th century by James Stuart who wanted to impress his guests as they entered his property. Two centuries later, the trees remain a magnificent sight and have become one of the most photographed natural phenomena in Northern Ireland. You can see scenes of Game of Thrones in the Dark Hedges. After exploring the Dark Hedges, we headed to the Giant Causeway, an impressive geological marvel that formed about 60 million years ago. From there, we headed to Derry, another impressive city. We had to see the murals representing the Derry Girls, a sitcom set in 1990s Northern Ireland. There is also a lot of political street art in Derry. We then headed to the famous Cliffs of Moher. Our final stop was in Limerick to see my awesome daughter off to college. Slane Abbey | Belfast | Dark Hedges | Giant Causeway | Derry | Cliffs of Moher | Limerick
