TravelCap is a browser extension that helps you find the real-world filming location of a movie or TV scene you're watching, and see travel offers to get there. This policy explains exactly what data the extension touches, what it doesn't, and why.
The short version: TravelCap does not require an account, does not collect personally identifiable information, and never reads, stores, or transmits actual video or image content. It only ever handles a video's displayed title and its current playback timestamp — both plain text/numeric metadata, not video content.
When you click "Find this location" on a supported site, the extension reads two pieces of information from the page you're already viewing:
The title of the movie or show, as displayed on the page (e.g., from the page's visible heading or standard page metadata)
The current playback position of the video (e.g., "12 minutes 40 seconds in"), read from the video player's standard playback-position property
That's the entire input. TravelCap does not capture screenshots, video frames, audio, or any other content from the page.
No account creation, login, or user identity of any kind
No name, email, or contact information (unless you voluntarily contact us for support)
No streaming-service account data, credentials, or session tokens
No browsing history beyond the single active tab at the moment you click the extension's button
No video frames, screenshots, or images of any kind
No location data from your device (GPS, IP-based geolocation, etc.) — "location" in TravelCap always means the destination in the world, not you
In the current version of TravelCap, the title you look up is matched against a location database that is bundled directly with the extension and stored on your own device. This matching happens entirely inside your browser — nothing about what you're watching is sent to any server.
The extension keeps a small local list of your own recent lookups (title + matched location) so you can see them again from the toolbar popup. This list is stored only in your browser's local extension storage (chrome.storage.local) and is never transmitted anywhere. You can clear it at any time by removing the extension.
The extension also keeps a local, anonymous tally of which locations get looked up, to help us understand which titles are most useful to add next. This tally is not linked to your identity in any way, and in the current version it stays on your device and is not uploaded.
Location results include links to third-party travel-booking sites (for example Booking.com, Expedia, or Skyscanner). These are standard affiliate links: if you click through and make a booking, TravelCap may earn a commission from the travel company, at no extra cost to you. Once you click through, you are on that company's website and subject to their privacy policy and terms — TravelCap does not pass any personal data to them as part of this handoff.
If TravelCap ever offers an aggregated "travel interest" report to travel companies or studios, that report will contain only counts — for example, "1,200 lookups for Location X this month" — never any individual user's identity, device, or lookup history. This policy will be updated before any such feature is enabled.
storage — to save your recent-lookups list locally on your device
activeTab / scripting — to read the title and playback position from the page you're currently viewing, only when you click the extension's button
Host permissions on supported streaming sites — required so the extension can run its detection script on those specific pages; it does not run on, or collect data from, any other site you visit
TravelCap is not directed at children and does not knowingly collect any information from children, consistent with the fact that it collects no personal information from any user.
If this policy changes — for example, if a future version introduces account features or server-side data collection — we will update this page and revise the "last updated" date above.
