How do audio alerts work?
Audio alerts are currently only set up for hot spots NOT active traps. Active traps are the pins on the map. Hot spots do not show on the map, but will still trigger while you drive, even if no trap report has been made.
See the full hot spot audio alert how-to here.
Why do you need so many permissions?
Google Play Store permissions are highly misleading and generalized. It's Google, not us. Here's what we use.
LOCATION: To determine if you are in a hot spot. It's a navigation app, so this is routine.
SD CARD MEDIA/PHOTO/VIDEO: Hot spots are downloaded as a data and sound file to your device. This is stored on your SD card. We do NOT access any of your existing files, pictures, video, or other media, this is highly misleading by Google. We only access the hot spot file we placed there.
IDENTITY PHONE/CONTACTS: We pull your Google play email, and your phone device ID. This pins down an ID on each user so we can successfully ban anyone who spams or attacks the app. This also saves you from having to create a username and password (and remembering that password) to enter the app.
We do NOT access your contacts, call logs, or anything other than the 2 items above. Again, Google's permission categories are highly misleading.
Which trap type do I use?
Should I report red light and intersection cameras?
NO! They're all added to the app already for Winnipeg! You can find them in your menu (top left button). They don't show on the map, but they will trigger audio alerts upon approaching when driving. Just make sure to press "Start Driving" to enable your audio alerts. It seems many people want to see them on the map, so it's a feature we'll add in future. Any red light cam reports will be deleted immediately by admins.
How long do the pins stay active on the map?
Pins auto-timeout after 3hrs. We can change this at any time, however 3hr has worked very well to cover the max lifespan of an active trap.
How do I confirm a report is active or report it's gone?
We don't currently have confirm/report gone features built because we want to ensure they're built in a way that cannot be abused. They'll be built eventually.
For now, if a trap is more than 2.5hr old and still active, go ahead and make a new report, which will start a new 3hr timer. Anything under 2hr old doesn't require a new report as the trap could soon be ending on the ground.
