TransU ("we", "us", or "the App") is a local device backup and restore application developed for Android. We are committed to protecting your privacy. This Privacy Policy explains how TransU handles your data when you use our application.
1. Overview
TransU is designed as a fully offline, local-only backup and restore tool. The App does not request Internet access permission, does not connect to any remote servers, and does not collect, transmit, or share your personal data with any third parties. All data processed by the App remains entirely on your device or on the storage location you explicitly choose.
2. Information We Access
TransU accesses the following types of data on your device only when you explicitly initiate a backup operation and grant the required permissions:
2.1 Contacts
• Names, phone numbers, email addresses, and other contact details stored on your device.
• Contact avatar photos.
• Permissions used: READ_CONTACTS, WRITE_CONTACTS (write permission is used solely for the restore function).
2.2 SMS and MMS Messages
• Text message content, sender/receiver information, timestamps, and MMS attachments.
• Permissions used: READ_SMS, SEND_SMS, RECEIVE_SMS, RECEIVE_MMS, RECEIVE_WAP_PUSH.
• Why these permissions are needed: TransU temporarily registers as the default SMS application solely to perform SMS restore operations. This is a technical requirement of the Android operating system. TransU does not read, intercept, send, or process any SMS/MMS messages outside the context of user-initiated backup and restore operations.
2.3 Call Logs
• Call history records including phone numbers, call type (incoming/outgoing/missed), duration, and timestamps.
• Permissions used: READ_CALL_LOG, WRITE_CALL_LOG (write permission is used solely for the restore function).
2.4 Photos and Videos
• Image and video files stored in your device's media library.
• Permissions used: READ_MEDIA_IMAGES, READ_MEDIA_VIDEO (Android 13+), READ_MEDIA_VISUAL_USER_SELECTED (Android 14+), or READ_EXTERNAL_STORAGE (Android 12 and below).
2.5 Files
• Files from directories that you explicitly select using the Android Storage Access Framework (SAF).
• TransU only accesses the specific folders you choose; it does not scan or access other areas of your file system.
2.6 Installed Applications
• A list of installed applications on your device, including app names, package names, and icons.
• Permission used: QUERY_ALL_PACKAGES.
• Note: Only app metadata and icons are collected. TransU does not copy or backup APK files or application data.
3. How We Use Your Data
All data accessed by TransU is used exclusively for the following purposes:
• Backup: Packaging your selected data into a local .transu backup file stored on your device or in a storage location you choose.
• Restore: Reading backup files to restore contacts, SMS, call logs, media, and other data back to your device.
• Encryption: Optionally encrypting backup files using AES-256 encryption with a password you provide.
We do not use your data for any other purpose, including but not limited to:
• Advertising or marketing
• User profiling or analytics
• Sharing with or selling to third parties
• Training machine learning models
4. Data Storage
4.1 Backup Files
• Backup files are stored locally on your device in a storage location of your choice (internal storage, or a custom folder via SAF).
• Backup files use the .transu format (a ZIP archive containing structured data files).
• You have full control over your backup files, including the ability to delete them at any time.
4.2 Optional Encryption
• You may choose to protect your backups with a password. When enabled, TransU encrypts backup files using AES-256 encryption with PBKDF2 key derivation (SHA256, 10,000 iterations).
• Your encryption password is never stored by the App. If you forget your password, encrypted backups cannot be recovered.
4.3 App Preferences
• TransU stores user preferences (such as theme settings, language preference, backup schedule configuration, and default encryption settings) locally on your device using Android's DataStore mechanism. These preferences are not transmitted anywhere.
4.4 Backup History
• A record of your backup history (file name, creation time, file size, and data types included) is stored in a local database on your device. This data is not transmitted anywhere.
5. Data Sharing
TransU does not share your data with any third parties. Specifically:
• No Internet Access: TransU does not include the INTERNET permission and is technically incapable of transmitting data over a network.
• No Third-Party SDKs: TransU does not integrate any analytics, advertising, crash reporting, or data collection SDKs.
• No Cloud Uploads: Although the App supports saving backups to SAF-compatible locations (which may include cloud-synced folders on your device), TransU itself does not initiate any cloud upload.
Any cloud syncing that may occur is managed by your device's file system and cloud sync apps independently of TransU.
6. Data Security
We take reasonable measures to protect your data:
• AES-256 Encryption: Optional password-based encryption using industry-standard AES-256 with PBKDF2 key derivation.
• No Network Access: By design, the App cannot transmit data over the Internet.
• Local Processing: All data processing occurs entirely on your device.
• Secure Random Generation: Cryptographic salts and initialization vectors are generated using SecureRandom.

• You can delete any backup file at any time through the App or via your device's file manager.
