This Forum is for experienced Fo Guang Shan translators to standardize their outputs across various ongoing projects e.g. Fo Guang Dictionary of Buddhism, Humanistic Buddhism Journal Translation, Complete Works of Venerable Master Hsing Yun, book publications and ad hoc temple-specific translations. Several departments in Taiwan have been involved in Chinese-English translation activities in Fo Guang Shan: Buddha’s Light Publications, Fo Guang Shan Institute of Humanistic Buddhism - Center for International Affairs (FGSIHB-CIA), Nan Tien Institute - Humanistic Buddhism Centre (NTI-HBC), Buddha Museum International Affairs Team, FGS International Translation Center (FGSITC), and various temples.
This Forum will be divided into two parts:
The goal of this Forum is for greater alignment in the translation of academic and popular materials in Humanistic Buddhism.
Professor Bingenheimer will cover collaborative translation and use of computational approaches to the Humanities and how to do research and translation in an age of digital information.
Professor Muller will speak about Digital Dictionary of Buddhism (DDB), the modernization of translated texts, glossary building and bibliography development.
Venerable Miao Guang will speak about the theory and practice of modern day translation with various ongoing projects, e.g. Fo Guang Dictionary of Buddhism (FGDB), Works by Venerable Master Hsing Yun, and ad hoc temple-specific translations.
Professor Lancaster will speak about the evolution of Buddhist Text Translation.
The Forum will be held at the Fo Guang Shan Monastery, No. 153, Hsin-tien Road, Dashu, Kaohsiung City, 840 Taiwan.
