PAST
Past is free and powerful software for scientific data analysis, with functions for biomedical data manipulation, plotting, univariate and multivariate statistics, ecological analysis, time series and spatial analysis, morphometrics and stratigraphy. The manual is an exceptionally good statistic guide. From Hammer et al., Paleontological Institute Oslo. Windows & Mac versions

DataView
Complete, powerful and free program for recording and analyzing data derived from analog signals using a A/D acquisition or mic input computer systems. It is primarily designed for neuroscientists, but it may be of interest to other scientists and engineers dealing with similar digitized data. Able to record, display, classify, analyze and graph a lot of bio-signals. From W. Heitler, University of St. Andrews, Scotland.

KlustaWin
A free program for unsupervised classification of multidimensional continuous data. It arose from a specific need - automatic sorting of parameters (see KD Harris et al, Journal of Neurophysiology 84:401-414,2000). The program allows: 1) Fit a mixture of Gaussians with unconstrained covariance matrices, 2) Automatically choose the number of mixture components, 3) Be robust against noise, 4) Run fast on large data sets (up to 100000 points, 48 dimensions). From W. Heitler, University of St. Andrews, Scotland. Windows version.

Tracker
A free video analysis and modeling tool built on the Open Source Physics (OSP) Java framework, allows: video tracking, modeling, a lot of video formats, data generation, extraction, analysis and export, library browser. Linux, Windows, Mac versions.
Spikes & Nets (S&N)
S&N is a new free access program for neuronal spike train analysis which offers user-friendly, fast interface, multi-platform, automatic archiving, complete set of methods and efficient handling of large numbers of neuronal spike trains files. A set of the most used spike train methods to perform single and multi-neuronal discharge pattern recognition but also functional connectivity analyze were implemented in an easy-to-use, standalone Matlab-based software toolbox. The methods included are single and multi-neuronal Raster Plot, Interspike Intervals, Multiparametric Burst, Auto-Correlation, Auto-Spectral, Fractal, Poincaré, Phase for discharge pattern analysis and, Cross-Correlation and Joint Interval Scatter Diagram for functional connectivity analysis. Additionally, time segmentation analysis is available to detect time-dependent changes for all methods. From Valle, Rodriguez-Fernández and Eblen-Zajjur, Pontificia Universidad Católica de Chile.

Graph Grabber
Graph Grabber is a tool that enables users to extract data points from a graph image. This is particularly useful when it is necessary to retrieve data from a published graph or graph image file without having access to the original numerical data.
