Trans people's experiences cannot be viewed without looking at how trans issues intersect with other power structures. This is called the theory of intersectionality.
Through this theory we can see how trans people's race and class affect their access to resources like homeless shelters and safe housing areas.
Not only that, but the intersection of gender identity and sexual orientation leads to erasure of trans voices in queer theory, exclusion from social circles, and less access to medical care.
However, many of these things are quickly changing, which allows us to imagine a future where intersectionality with race, class, and sexual orientation does not equate to lack of access but instead to empowering identity.
