Having finished her BFA from Raja Ravi Varma College of Fine Arts, Gopika Kishnan then pursued her MFA from MSU Baroda in Art History. Her artistic journey is multifaceted as she has exhibited work, curated exhibits, presented her research and volunteered as an art teacher. Her experiences and her work reflect in her portfolio, as her palette continues to evolve and move within the compositions.
Speckled with soft and brilliant colours, the pastel works evoke the lightness and luminosity of expressionist brushstrokes. Her colours collide rather gracefully and the prismatic effect is gorgeously imprinted. As we try to unravel the complexly intertwined tones, the image abstracts even further and creates a luminous barrier of sorts.
‘My paintings are a spiritual journey capturing what is beyond nature. They are experimental which focuses on the colorful abstractions and gestures in its simplest forms. What I try to
capture in my works are the vivid colors, forms, textures, and shapes of objects that animate nature. More than the meaning or message in my works it is also about giving and receiving
emotions thus giving its own life to it. More like a spiritual bond or a poetic journey between the viewer and beyond. During the pandemic, I have done a series of paintings on my sketchbook titled “ The good life that I didn't see or feel but all these beautiful colors showed me how to live”. This series focuses on my journey turning my darkness into a beautiful ecstasy.’
