Van-Trang Nguyen

Undergraduate Research Assistant

My name is Trang Ng., and I am a senior Computer Science undergraduate student at Fulbright University Vietnam. As an undergraduate researcher, my interests traverse the disciplinary boundaries of data science and environmental science, blending the analytical prowess of data-driven methodologies with a deep-seated passion for understanding the intricate relationships that define our environment. Currently, my ongoing project (with Phu T. Nguyen) focuses on the use of sensor remote data, physicochemical parameters, and machine learning to predict chlorophyll-a concentrations in the Mekong River.

Nhat-Linh N. Phan

Undergraduate Research Assistant

I am interested in how microorganism impact the carbon cycle in the ocean and also, the effect of light on microorganism. Our current research is about the distribution of microplastic in the Hau river in terms of abundance, size, shape, and the composition. Beyond my scientific pursuit, I love cats, find joy reading historical stuff, and I am in the process of finding who I am.

Thuy-Khue H. Ngo

Undergraduate Research Assistant

I am an undergraduate student interested in doing scientific research; currently, I’m still trying different fields in science to determine my area of interest, from basic science to applied science. My current research is focused on examining how human activities impact the dispersion of microplastics in the Hau River, located in Vietnam. Ultimately, my goal is to create a comprehensive map detailing the distribution of microplastics under the impact of human and natural factors within this river.

Han G. Tran

Undergraduate Research Assistant

I am Tran Gia Han, currently an Integrated Sciences student, mainly focusing on Cell and Environmental Biology. During the summer, I participated in the STEM Summer Internship Student Mentor and FUV x SUTD Hackathon.  Through them, I learned a lot about methods to live a sustainable life. Recently, I have been reading about agricultural technology for the past summer, and I have been into engineering to understand those technologies I saw on papers fully. I hope that it would be a great experience for me to join the group to contribute to Science as much as possible.

Le N. H. Pham

Undergraduate Research Assistant

Hi, I’m Lê (yes the fruit that you like :>). I major in Environmental Sciences and have currently found my interest in plankton and am trying to form my own research regarding this creature! We can’t see it with our eyes but surely it’s more interesting than anything on earth! :D My biggest goal is to survive college :) Wish me luck!

Quynh-Trang Mai

Undergraduate Research Assistant

Hello, my name is Quynh-Trang and I’m a freshman at FUV.

During the course Scientific Inquiry the Fall 2023 semester, I discovered my interest in meteorology, in particular their impact on air quality. Besides, I’m also interested in the interaction between human and animal and how it influences an animal's physical and mental functions.

Natural Science, in many ways, has freed me from my own constraints to engage with the world and its broad knowledge. I hope to have it as my long term companion in the journey to discover the world and myself.

Ngoc-Anh Nguyen

Undergraduate Research Assistant

My name is Ngọc Anh and I’m a senior majoring in Social Science at Fulbright University Vietnam (FUV). Even though I am not an expert in any of STEM field, I am deeply interested in Science and Technology Study (STS) and strive to understand how laypeople, especially those without STEM-related expertise, can participate in the technological development process to co-create machines for social good. My core believe is that science and technology breakthrough are not solely bound in the technical know-how, but also their adoption and diffusion to reach the community and meet their specific need. As an amateur researcher and practitioner, I am currently doing a project to bring Ceramic 3D Printing to FUV and aid the community in participating in the professional coral restoration effort in Vietnam.

Thanh-Trang Nguyen

Undergraduate Research Assistant

Hi, I am Thanh-Trang, an undergraduate Integrated Sciences student at Fulbright University Vietnam. To me, the journey of understanding natural science is thrilling, especially when I find ways to explain it in my own words. My current research with my lab mates focuses on coral reef regeneration in Vietnam, with my interest in nurturing and understanding the parameters that influence the living conditions of coral.

The interdisciplinary nature of natural science keeps me engaged in discovering my ultimate interest within its diverse branches. I aim to deepen my understanding of our world by nurturing my relationship with natural science :>

Student Interns

Lam B. Truong

High school Student (12th grade)

I am Lam, a high school senior at VNU-HCM High School for the Gifted (Vietnam National University - Ho Chi Minh) intending to pursue Environmental Science and Economics in college. Last summer, I had the opportunity to work on my research on soil quality in Long An’s paddy fields under the supervision of Dr. Trang Nguyen, who provided me with not only knowledge and directions but also heartwarming support. I plan to delve deeper into soil research on the Mekong Delta’s agricultural areas and expand on different types of crop. I also aim to combine principles of economics and policies with natural sciences to have a better understanding of multi-faceted environmental issues.

Nhu N. N. Nguyen

High school Student (11th grade)

Hello! My name is Nhu, and I am a curious high school student with a passion for science, particularly Earth and Environmental Sciences. With my summer internship at Science Lab, I learned about scientific research and experimental design. I am also working on a project about wastewater treatment in the Mekong Delta in Vietnam, which I believe can have a significant impact on our environment. Don't hesitate to reach out to Science Lab and me to learn more about how our planet works and conserve it. Let's make a positive change together!

Former Lab Members

Phu T. Nguyen

Undergraduate Research Assistant

I am currently undergoing training as a physicist, specializing in quantum information and neutrino research. My enthusiasm for these fields was deepened through prior research, where I designed a portable detector, using Arduinos and sensors, to explore neutrinos. However, what truly drives my ambition is the chance to apply technology and utilize my computing expertise to tackle important societal issues. Presently, my main work in the lab centers on an ongoing project that combines remote sensing data with physicochemical parameters to analyze and oversee water quality.
