Sometimes your Local Data Folder can end up with corrupt data. In this case, the solution is to create a new folder which contains no 3rd party content. From there, you can then IMPORT your old content and work out which items may be causing issues.

From the launcher of any Trainz installation, you can click the "Trainz Settings" button and then switch to the "Install" tab to see the full path to that installation's local data folder. You can navigate directly to that path using your system's file manager, however please keep in mind that the parent folders of the default location may be hidden on some systems so simply starting at the top level of your computer and working your way down may not work.

Trainz Simulator Data File Download

You may access this location in Windows Explorer by entering the path "%appdata%\..\Local\N3V Games\TANE" into the Window Explorer address bar. At this location you will see one or more local data folders, corresponding with your various Trainz installations. The name of each folder here includes a random character string which has no meaning but simply allows for multiple installs to coexist without overwriting each other's data files.

You will also find a text file at this location named "userdata-redirect-map.txt" which lists the correlation between each Trainz installation and its local data folder. While it is possible to hand-edit this file using a program such as WordPad.exe, it is not recommended due to the potential for data loss.

In Mac OS X, the local data folder is stored by default at a subfolder of "/Users//Library/Containers/com.n3vgames.tane" (where "" is the username of the logged-in Mac OS X user account.) Trainz 2019 uses trs19 instead of tane. Similarly Trainz 2022 uses trs22 for the folder name.

You may access this location in Finder by using "Go To" (command-shift-G) and then entering the address "~/Library/Containers/com.n3vgames.tane/Data". At this location you will see one or more local data folders, corresponding with your various Trainz installations. The name of each folder here includes a random character string which has no meaning but simply allows for multiple installs to coexist without overwriting each other's data files.

You will also find a file at this location named "userdata-redirect-map.txt" which lists the correlation between each Trainz installation and its local data folder. It is typically not possible to hand-edit this file due to the way that Mac OS X encodes file paths.

I am trying to edit one of the models in Train Simulator 2020, it's a locomotive. I got it's GeoPcDx file, now i am looking to convert this file into something i can work with, but, as game studios do it's a locked down file format.

I used TS-tools to open and get the XML data inside (for safe keeping) but i am not able to find some tool to convert this into something i can work with, this apparently exists as Glenn mentioned in this post from 6 years ago, ( ) but the post has been moderated and the program name is unknown.

This is a common misconception with 3d files. While games do have 3d models in them, these are usually specific to the game engine they are written for. If you can extract them from the game files they are unlikely to work with other programs. Your best bet for learning how to extract file data from the game would most likely be the gaming community for said game or the game engine it is written in, but unless the game is hugely popular I wouldn't bank on them being available.

I used to work part time in a hobby shop that did 3d printing, and this was a really common question from people who didn't understand how 3d files work. Depending on what you plan on using the files for, it may be easier to make your own. Even if you can get them from the game code, the likelihood of you being able to use them in any meaningful way is rather small.

I don't know which Trainz version you are using. Trainz 12 and before mainly uses .im file as the in game data for the model, and you might be able to open it with some sort of loader. contents created in TANE and after sometimes use .trainzmesh, which is some of the game's own standard, and probably won't be able to easily open.

This will download all JNR content avaible on Trainz's Download Station, wich includes 99% of all Japanese steam locomotives ever made for trainz plus matching freight and passenger stock and many other useful things.

Railway Gazette 07/2008Sharing tracks in Sydney is the title of an article published in the Railway Gazette 07/2008 by Ian Imrie from Plateway. The article describes the complexity of sharing tracks between freight and passenger trains in the Sydney area.

Supporting the study, the two Swiss Tools Viriato and OpenTrack were used with success.

By incorporating landscape based on actual electronic map data with the specially developed Nature Series sets (animated waterfalls, river splines, textures, cliff splines, rail ledge splines, rock splines), Murchison 2 takes Trainz to a new level of realism. The result is a photorealistic layout, set in the steam/diesel transition era, that users can submerge themselves in for a complete interactive rail experience.

Whether a steam-era NG enthusiast, or solely interested in SG steam or diesel operation, the 440 board Murchison 2 layout contains a huge variety of interactive and inter-related industries that will keep the train enthusiast immersed for many hours of operational pleasure.

Each asset (or content item) in Trainz starts in a file folder setup and with each part defined by the content creator. In the early days of trainz for technical reasons, each kind also had a defined folder and sub-folder structure, with some names being constrained, suffixed, or by common convention, traditionally defined in some particular way. Some graphics packages, notably Autodesk's 3ds Max which N3V's developers use and the simpler game focused Gmax sub-set of 3ds Max formerly 'bundled-with-Trainz' liked to use certain sub-folder arrangements and many of these carry over into Trainz folders organization. Thus, for a traincar asset you will generally see the following sub-folders off its root folder, which by the older standard (pre-TRS2006) will be named by what was once the value of the 'asset-filename' tag (AssetName), and in later data models, is most often the value of the username tag value (Asset_Name):[note 3] The early Trainz data model (structure) was dependent upon 'asset-filename' with the suffixes _art, _body, and _shadow. An asset referenced as Asset_Name (username) with its 'slightly different' asset-filename would define the following folder structure inside the root folder 'Assetname':

Various data elements must be defined in a config file, and others are optional. Such data elements are set forth in the TrainzBaseSpec, a KIND classed data collection which may be or must be defined in each Trainz sub-asset. A sub-asset are parts, wheels, Locomotive Cabs, bogeys (trucks), couplers, track attached to an interactive factory and so forth which might be used by numbers of larger assets. The track in the factory or wheels of a freight car (wagon) being two easy to understand examples.

The simulators consist of route and session editors called Surveyor, and a Driver module that loads a route and lets the player operate and watch the trains run in either "DCC" mode, which simulates a bare-bones Digital Command Control (DCC) system for the simple stop-and-go of a basic model railway, or "CAB" mode, which simulates real-world physics and adds working cab controls.

The simulators are supported by a large library of freeware assets which can be downloaded from the N3V servers, referred to as the Download Station (DLS). Unless users purchase a First Class Ticket with real money, download speeds for the DLS (both in Content Manager and directly through File Transfer Protocol on the Trainz website) are throttled, which tends to be a point of contention in the Trainz community. PaintShed is a simple program for aiding and easing the process of 'reskinning' traincars, altering their livery, by recoloring and adding new heraldry to Trainz locomotives and other rolling stock. The Content Manager (CM) module is a Windows program that allows management of the in-game database files. It was renamed under the name of Content Manager Plus (CMP) in TRS2006.

Trainz Railway Simulator 2006 (known as Trainz Railroad Simulator 2006 in the USA), or TRS2006, was a transitional release, incorporating the stable Auran JET based TRS2004 GUI modules with only some graphics improvements, but introducing the data base manager Content Manager Plus (CMP) as a new core technology. ContentManager.exe (now called just CM) combines data base management, and secure FTP upload and download facilities and special user definable filters all in one integrated system. By defining a good filter, the user could 'selectively not see' the clutter of regional items in the Surveyor asset selection menus saving user time when world building. This important filtering feature was further improved in Trainz 2009, becoming far more powerful and easier to use. In addition to these improvements, several new routes were included, such as Hawes Junction (representing a small section of the Settle and Carlisle Railway and serving as a demo for TC3), Toronto Rail Lands 1954 (representing Toronto's sprawling railyard in 1954), and Marias Pass Approach (representing the BNSF Marias Pass line between Shelby, Montana and Cut Bank, Montana and serving as a demo for the full Marias Pass payware route). TRS2006 was published in September 2005, and the base release with its single service pack formed the core of the regional releases (most are joint ventures with 'Trainz Partners' combining payware content provider's products with the base Trainz software) over the next four years until the introduction of new technologies in TC3 and TRS2009. In Germany, it was published by Bluesky-Interactive, as ProTrain Perfect.[citation needed] ff782bc1db
