Welcome to Module #1

This module will focus on learning the basics of Google Classroom and how to create content, add people and manage the class settings for students and parents.

Step 1: Pre-test

Start with a pre-test to assess your current knowledge, this will help you identify which step of the modules to focus on.

Step 2: Getting Started (15 min)

Start with an introduction to Google Classroom by watching the videos below. Printable step-by-step instructions can also help you set up your first class and start your Google Classroom journey.

Step 3: How to create a class (20 min)

Communicate with students and change settings

It is recommended that you allow students to comment in Google Classroom so they can ask questions, communicate with their peers, and seek any clarification - If students are being inappropriate see the following instructions on how to mute individual students

Step 4: Adding Students & Guardians to Google Classroom (5 min)

Once students & Guardians are added, you will be able to easily contact them via email

Parents will also receive a weekly guardian email summary generated automatically by the content you create in your classroom. Learn more and view an example guardian email summary here.

This is a sample guardian letter that you can send home that explains how you will be using Google Classroom.

Part 5: Create an assignment (10 min)

Add documents, videos, and websites for students

After watching the video, you may want to more about what other content you can create. Click on the how to guides at the bottom of this module page to learn more. If you have shared a PDF for your student to edit and are having trouble seeing the annotations. Check out this how to. Alternatively, you may want to convert your PDF to a Google Doc file - Check out this video to learn how.(formatting will be compromised and you will need to make adjustments).

Try using PDF candy to edit PDFs (please ensure the PDFs do not include private or sensitive information)

Part 6: Parent/Guardian & Student Resources (20 min)

Guardians who are not familiar with Google Classroom can watch the instructional videos and slideshow below. A sample letter to send home when you begin using Google Classroom can be found above in step 4.
