No matter what level of athletics in which you compete in we have a variety of resources provided by some of the top sports minds in the sports world. The Pre-cohorts provided will guide, assist and lead you in areas that every player needs growth and development.
Pre-cohort: Mental Training
S.M.A.R.T Goals:
Eliminate and reduce negative stress and increase eustress
Identify what is individually important
Define the best holistic approach to prepare to perform conditioning
Challenges:
1) Complete a brief mental conditioning exercise
2) Read an article that defines opportunities to decrease injury in conditioning
3) Reflect on learning
Challenge 1: What is the benefit of mental training as an athlete during a crisis?
According to Psychology Today there are Five Essential and mental- and performance related areas to focus on. One of which obstacles to overcome when it comes to mental and performance
To Do: Watch the 5 Mental Skills for Sports video then answer your Challenge 1 Question above.
To Consider: Consider what information that you have been taught about whether mental toughness can be taught. Do you agree or disagree? When you address an assignment or physical drill do you see yourself being successful in completing it. It is important to consider that the same fundamentals that you are required to know physically you must also consider them mentally.
REMEMBER: Experiencing growth with mental training can occur when you utilize your senses and actually put forth as much effort forward as you do physically.

Challenge 2: What is the benefit of completing course work during COVID 19?
To Do: Watch the video on "What Athletes should do about Coronavirus to maintain your own sense of normalcy and preparation for the new norms to come.
To Consider: Consider the importance and value of your education at a critical time. When it comes to continuing to learn ask yourself what will this benefit me once I have an idea of what my education looks like? Will you have an edge or what looks like a significant loss of learning? In order to maintain focus you must continue to use your brain and exercise it just like you would any other muscle in order to perform at a high level in order to be eligible to compete.

Challenge 3: How can I stay engaged and show resilience that I already have?
To Do: Watch the video on "The Impact of the Coronavirus on Student Athletes" and complete make note of what you notice and wonder about the perspective shared.
To Consider: Think about which student athlete group you represent. Include this feedback in the questions and project for this challenge. What is it like now that you have attempted to re-establish some type or routine for yourself and those expectations that your coach has set for you?
