1. Contact Our Membership Coordinator
To join our troop, first you'll need to connect with our Troop Membership Coordinator. You can meet with the coordinator in person at the check-in table at one of our regular Tuesday troop meetings, or connect by emailing the troop at troopid1545@gmail.com. Our membership coordinator will provide you with a prospective trailman questionnaire to fill out and return, which will help them determine if there is availability for your son(s) to join the troop and will guide you personally through the joining steps.
2. Register with Trail Life USA
If there is availability to join the troop, the membership coordinator will send you a web link for you to register your son with Trail Life USA as a national member, which includes paying an Annual Youth Membership fee online directly to Trail Life USA. This fee is usually around $43.00 and provides for the operations costs of the Home Office as well as insurance coverage for troop activities.
You'll pay this fee annually on the anniversary date of when you first registered your son; this supports Trail Life USA directly, not Troop ID-1545.
3. Complete Troop ID-1545 Membership Application Packet
After registering as a national member, each prospective trailman will receive a membership application packet from the membership coordinator which must be completed in full and turned back in, in order to join. The membership application packet includes:
Our Membership Agreement form
Our troop Code of Conduct
The Youth Member Health and Medical Record form
The Activity Permission form.
4. Pay Local Troop Dues and Receive your T-shirt, ID Badge, and Handbook
After completing all the previous steps, the final step is to pay our Local Troop Dues, which are $70 for the 2025-2026 program year. Our local troop dues cover the cost of running our local troop (we don't get any money from TLUSA).
Troop dues are paid at the check-in table at a regular Tuesday meeting, with cash or check. We do offer to pro-rate troop dues throughout the year, based upon when a member joins our troop, as well as providing scholarships for financial assistance to those who qualify; please inquire with the membership coordinator about either of these options.
Upon paying troop dues, your son (now called a "trailman" in troop-speak) will receive his troop ID badge, his patrol handbook, and his patrol t-shirt (if we don't have a t-shirt in your trailman's size at that moment we'll order one and get it to you ASAP). You may also choose to order a patrol uniform from the TLUSA shop.
