"A Brief History of Our Club" - by David Tulowitzky
Welcome to Trail Birds of Southwest Florida
Trail Birds of Southwest Florida began in 1994 when Betty and David Tulowitzky and Frank and Debbie Hanson posted a note in the Early Bird magazine that anyone interested in starting a Thunderbird club in Southwest Florida for 1955 – 1957 Thunderbirds to meet at the Hansons’ home in Cape Coral on January 15, 1994. There were six people at that meeting, and several phone calls from interested owners, so a plan for a club was established.
Frank suggested the name “Trail Birds of Southwest Florida” because members would live along the Tamiami Trail from Sarasota to Naples, and David drew up a club logo. Sadly, Frank passed away two years later, and Debby moved back to Indiana to be near family.
In 1996, the small club of 25 members met the requirements to obtain a CTCI Chapter 113, which was received at the 1996 convention in Bend, Oregon. Dave and Betty drove their 1957 Thunderbird from Port Charlotte to the convention, a trip of over 10,000 miles, and brought the Charter back to Florida.
Today, this club is a place where members who share a love for the 1955-1957 Ford Thunderbird can gather in friendship and camaraderie.

"Baby Birds" Nickname:
Early Thunderbirds gained the nickname "Baby Birds" because they were smaller and more compact compared to the larger, more spacious models that followed in 1958.
