You may think Los Angeles traffic is bad, but when it comes to the 2021 edition of the TomTom Traffic Index report, it doesn't even rank in the top 50. In fact, of all the cities on Earth, only one American metropolis even makes such a list.

To arrive at the answer, TomTom established baseline travel times during traffic-free conditions in each city. The company then calculated travel times in 404 cities in 58 countries, throughout 2021 (all day, every day).

The only American city on TomTom's top 50, New York in 2021 saw an average congestion level of 35%. TomTom says its figures suggest the average travel time increased by 5 min per day. On average, the worst time for traffic was Fridays between 4 p.m. and 5 p.m.

Traffic in Poznan is bad enough on most days. But traffic was especially bad on May 9, 2018, when this giant tanker overturned and spilled thousands of gallons of hot chocolate on Poland's A2 highway.

The Traffic Commission is the regulatory body that oversees all traffic regulations in the City of Somerville. Its authority is based on enabling legislation from the Commonwealth of Massachusetts' General Laws and the City of Somerville Charter. The Traffic and Parking Department is the custodian of the records and regulations. The Traffic Commission usually meets the second Thursday of the month at 5:30 p.m.

The purpose of this policy is to preclude the future residents of new development from creating additional traffic & parking problems, such as traffic congestion and on-street parking shortages, while helping to reduce air pollution and improve both pedestrian safety and emergency service response time.

The Traffic Cameras and the ATMS system are an integral part of the State and National effort to provide high technology transportation solutions. ITS solutions provide motorists with continual information concerning the traffic flow on the Interstate and City Streets. The computerized ITS system allows city staff to continually evaluate study and coordinate the City's traffic signals.

To report a malfunctioning traffic signal, pedestrian signal or school flasher, or for more information, please call the Traffic Management Center at 719-385-5908 or email Traffic.Engineering@coloradosprings.gov.

In Chicago, the average driver lost 155 hours, or nearly six and a half days, to time spent in traffic in 2022, leading to an estimated cost of $2,618 in lost time over the year. The report measures lost time using a 2016 analysis by the U.S. Federal Highway Administration, which, when adjusted for inflation, estimates an average hour stuck in traffic in the U.S. is worth nearly $17.

INRIX analyzed per capita time spent in traffic congestion among drivers in more than 1,000 cities across 50 countries by comparing commute times to and from major employment centers during peak and off-peak hours. In the U.S., drivers in major cities lost an average of 51 hours to time spent in traffic in 2022, or $869 in lost time, according to INRIX.

Traffic Engineering Department (TED) is a City/County partnership that performs all maintenance of traffic signs, creates and maintains street markings on accepted roads and streets within Vanderburgh County, and ensures all traffic signals are in proper working order in an effort to provide smooth traffic flow in both the City and County.

Traffic Control permits are required for all public improvement projects, construction projects or other work encroaching into the public right-of-way, including the sidewalks, parking spaces, medians, alleys and streets. A traffic control permit is also required for installing a temporary dumpster in the public right-of-way. This permit allows for the temporary use of a street, sidewalk or parking lane for business.

The Transportation Division provides traffic engineering design such as review of geometric design, signal design and signal timing, roadway lighting, signs, curb paint, traffic control devices, and roadway markings. Design also includes conducting safety studies and establishing safe routes to school, bus stop locations, load zones, and heavy haul routes.

Traffic Safety and Engineering section collects, processes, and provides data for many of the designs and decisions made within the group, and by other internal and external entities. This data includes traffic volume counts, intersection turning movement counts, collision records, signal and streetlight system information, sign inventory, and speed studies.

The Planning and Permitting section conducts and reviews traffic impact studies, such as the studies performed as part of environmental review in conjunction with new development. Operational and safety studies are also conducted within the group in support of tasks such as corridor and network planning, signal timing, speed limit modifications, sight distance evaluations, driveway locations, and detour routes.

Part of the information that is a key element to some of the studies and work done within this group is related to traffic incidents. This link provides information about traffic incidents within the City.

The Transportation Division also provides assistance with the permit process, creating and approving traffic control plans for sewer work, new building construction, special events, site development and any other work that may impact the right-of-way. As part of this work, a key tool is the Traffic Control Handbook. An updated version of the Traffic Control Handbook is in the final approval stage, but in the meantime the current version includes instructions and plan templates required for permit review if work is being conducted in the right-of-way (ROW).

The following link will direct you to the right-of-way traffic library on the Tacoma Permits web page. This Library contains commonly used regulations that City of Tacoma right-of-way and traffic review is based upon.

Administrative functions include the maintenance of data files concerning traffic and pedestrian volumes, accident records and diagrams, traffic control devices inventory and maintenance records, as well as normal administrative duties.

The Elmira Police Department Traffic Bureau is responsible for compliance of all motor vehicle laws, traffic accident documentation and investigation, accident reconstruction, and follow-up of all hit and run accidents in the City of Elmira. In 2010 The Elmira Police Department investigated 1,147 Motor Vehicle Accidents. Of those accidents, 117 were injury accidents and 2 were fatal accidents. The driving errors that occurred the most often in traffic accidents were following too closely, failure to yield the right of way, unsafe backing, and hit-and-run. Tell the dispatcher of any injuries to yourself or anyone else involved. If there are no injuries, tell the dispatcher that you need a police officer on the scene for a police report.

Vehicles that are left abandoned on City streets are towed and impounded if the owner cannot be contacted. Call the Communications Center at (607) 735-8600 and tell the dispatcher where your vehicle is, the problem you are encountering, and when you expect to be able to move the vehicle. If the vehicle is in a heavy-traffic area, call 911 and request an officer to provide assistance and traffic diversion (if necessary).

All new signage on the streets of the City of Elmira must first be approved by the Traffic Coordinating Board. If you feel your neighborhood needs a Highway Environment Sign such as a Deaf/Blind Child Area Sign or a specific Crossing Sign such as a Pedestrian Crossing or Deer Crossing sign, you will need to complete the Application for Highway Environment or Crossing Sign. If you feel your neighborhood is in need of a stop sign or other traffic control device, complete the Multi-Way Stop Sign Control Application.
