Gabriele is a Board member of the Torrey Pines Docent Society, thoroughly enjoys getting to know the Torrey Pines Reserve’s spectacular wildlife and contributing through activities such as removing invasive plant species and leading Public Walks. She is the docent liaison to UC San Diego and docent co-coordinator for the bee monitoring project.
Jess is a PhD student at UC San Diego studying how variable precipitation and habitat loss and fragmentation interact to impact native bee biodiversity in San Diego. She aids in identifying the iNaturalist bee observations and analyzes the data to assess changes in the bee community over time. Jess is excited to see how non-lethal monitoring efforts and community science can be used together to engage a broad audience to gather crucial biodiversity data.
Robert is a wildlife biologist and educator. As a WannaBee, he orients new members, develops guides to help with data recording and using iNaturalist, as well as assists in promoting the Bee Monitoring Project. Robert hopes that others will be inspired to care about our incredible native bee and overall biodiversity at TPSNR.
Tina is a retired (not tired) civil engineer. She’s a lifelong love affair with numbers and has been fascinated by data. Data teaches and reveals stories. As a part of the WannaBee project since the beginning, she’s extracted data from iNaturalist and created and shared the reports that show the most popular bees, their hosting followers, survey routes, and the environment.
James is an assistant professor at the University of Oklahoma. James has been studying the ecology and conservation of San Diego’s native bees since 2011, and uses this experience to provide bee identifications for the project and analyze the data that result from the monitoring efforts.
