TPSAT SPEARHEADS TREE PLANTING DRIVE TO SUPPORT WOOD CARVING INDUSTRY IN MARINDUQUE
In a heartwarming display of environmental stewardship, Torrijos Población School of Arts and Trades (TPSAT) employees and students came together on January 26, 2024, to embark on a tree planting activity. Their noble mission was to support the wood carving industry in the province of Marinduque, which relies heavily on the Santol tree as a medium for exquisite works of art. The participants enthusiastically planted Santol seedlings, recognizing the urgent need for a sustainable source of this valuable tree. By doing so, they are helping to preserve the art and culture of Marinduque, which is renowned for its intricate sculpture of saints, Marion masks or helmets.
The wood carving industry in Marinduque has a rich history and cultural significance. The province's skilled artisans transform the Santol tree into breathtaking works of art, which are admired by people both locally and internationally. However, the dwindling supply of Santol trees has posed a threat to the sustainability of this industry. The TPSAT tree planting activity is a commendable initiative that addresses this pressing issue. By actively planting santol seedlings, TPSAT is contributing to the long-term preservation of the wood carving industry and the cultural heritage of Marinduque.
TPSAT is grateful to the Kaluppâ Foundation for growing and sharing the Santol seedlings used in this endeavor.
This encouraging action highlights the importance of community involvement in environmental stewardship and cultural preservation. TPSAT's dedication to supporting the wood carving industry through tree planting serves as an inspiring example of how different institutions can make a positive impact on their communities and the environment.
