"Play with respect.

Win with grace."

                                              ~ Roger Federer

Welcome to the Torrey Pines High School Girls Tennis Team homepage! "Play with respect. Win with grace" is a perfect descriptor for the Girls Tennis program at Torrey Pines High School. The TPHS Girls Tennis team has historically been one of the best in the state. As of 2018, the Falcons have won the North County Conference title 28 years in a row with many of their graduating seniors going on to play college tennis at fine schools such as Duke, Yale, USF, Clairemont-Mudd.

While the TPHS Girls Tennis team has a reputation as a powerhouse in California girls' tennis, winning has been and continues to be a secondary goal. The development of skills, attitudes and dispositions that will prepare young athletes for a lifetime of fulfillment as responsible adults and citizens is of paramount importance.

Varsity Coach: Don Chu

Before assuming the position as coach of the Torrey Pines Varsity Girls Tennis Team in Fall 2018, Don coached the JV Boys Tennis Team at Torrey Pines in 2017.  Sports have always been an important part of his life beginning in his formative years in New York City, through his college sport career at Oberlin College. A relative late comer to tennis, he developed his teaching and coaching skills as an assistant tennis pro at Mamaroneck Yacht and Tennis Club, as a graduate teaching associate at Stanford University and over several summers coaching tennis in Wiltshire, England. After his academic career as a professor, researcher and university administrator, he retired in 2014 and renewed his lifelong interest working with youth in sport through Pro Kids First Tee in Oceanside and now as a coach at TPHS. Don's greatest accomplishment is his five children and five grandchildren who are widely dispersed throughout the U.S.

Junior Varsity Coach: Sean Huey

Sean has been playing tennis since he was five years old. He played all four years in high school at Mt. Carmel and a couple of years at Palomar College. After graduating from CSU East Bay with a bachelor's degree in Kinesiology and teaching credentials for Physical Education, Sean got his first coaching opportunity at Stone Ranch Elementary School as their PE coach in 2015 to 2022. Sean also works at the Santaluz Club. He was recently promoted to Camp Lead and is now responsible for organizing and planning the year-round and season camp programs. He also works as a camp counselor, fitness attendant, facilities, housekeeping and, of course, tennis coach. Sean has taught in tennis camps and clinics with experience in a variety of levels from beginner to junior development, even earning his USPTA certification in 2017. Since 2019, Sean has been the JV coach for both the Boys and Girls Tennis team at Torrey Pines. When he's not playing tennis, he loves spending time with his family, watching anime, and playing Street Fighter 6 on his PS5.
