Touria aims to incorporate her students’ interests and backgrounds to help students better understand concepts and techniques to tailor a unique lesson experience for each student.
Touria Benhammou is in her second year as the 5th and 6th-grade orchestra teacher in the Roosevelt Union Free School District. Alongside teaching in Roosevelt, she is a private strings teacher across Long Island.
Receiving a Bachelor of Music from The Crane School of Music, SUNY Potsdam in 2022, Touria is currently attending Teachers College, Columbia University working towards her Master of Music and Music Education. Outside of working with students, Touria is a cellist in the pit orchestra of the Port Summer Show in Port Washington, NY.
Utilizing her knowledge and experience of teaching since she was a teacher assistant in high school, Touria aims to incorporate her students’ interests and backgrounds to help students better understand concepts and techniques to tailor a unique lesson experience for each student. As an educator, she believes in culturally responsive teaching, student choice, and quality of practice over quantity. Her students have received top scores at NYSSMA, and have participated in NMEA, SCMEA, and LISFA concerts.
