Privacy Policy for TOTL

This Privacy Policy explains how TOTL (the app, we, us), a Steppe Summit Studio app, handles your information. By using TOTL, you agree to this policy.
Summary
- TOTL is designed to be private and offline first. Your expense entries, baby profiles, budgets, and plans are stored on your device.
- We do not require an account, and we do not collect your name, email, or location.
- We do not show ads, and we do not use third party analytics or tracking tools.
- Some features send limited information to service providers to work: Apple for purchases, and our AI provider for AI insights. Details are below.
Information stored on your device
The data you enter, including expense amounts, categories, vendors, notes, an optional baby name and birth or due date, budgets, income figures used for leave planning, and your settings, is stored locally on your device using Apple's on device database. You can delete all of it at any time in Settings using Erase All Data.
AI features
When you use an AI feature, such as the Monthly Reality Report, Ask TOTL, Worth It checks, the AI budget builder, or voice and paste parsing, the app sends the information needed to generate that response to our AI provider, Anthropic, through the Claude API. This may include the relevant expense details, category and budget context, your region, and an optional baby age or stage. This information is sent only to produce your result, is transmitted over an encrypted connection, is not used to show you ads, and is never sold. Anthropic processes the request under its own terms; under Anthropic's commercial API terms, your inputs and outputs are not used to train Anthropic's models. If you do not use AI features, no expense data is sent to Anthropic.
Voice capture
If you use voice entry, audio is processed using Apple's Speech Recognition framework to convert your speech to text. Depending on your device and settings, this may happen on your device or be processed by Apple. The resulting text is then handled like any other entry. Please see Apple's privacy policy for how Apple handles speech data.
Purchases
TOTL Pro is sold through Apple's In App Purchase system. Apple processes your payment and manages your subscription. We never see or store your payment details. Your purchase status is verified on your device through Apple.
Notifications
TOTL can send local reminders and insights from your device. These are generated on your device and are not sent to us. You can turn them off in the app's Settings or in the iOS Settings app.
What we do not do
- We do not link to your bank accounts or cards.
- We do not collect device identifiers for tracking or advertising.
- We do not maintain user accounts or a central database of your entries.
Children's privacy
TOTL is intended for parents and other adults. It is not directed to children, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children.
Data retention and deletion
Because your data lives on your device, you control it. Deleting the app, or using Erase All Data in Settings, removes your entries from the device. AI requests are processed only to return a result and are subject to the AI provider's retention practices.
Security
Your on device data is protected by your device's standard protections. Network requests for AI features use encrypted connections.
Your choices
- You can use the app without AI features to keep all data on your device.
- You can erase your data at any time in Settings.
- You can manage or cancel your subscription in your Apple account settings.
Changes to this policy
We may update this policy from time to time. We will post the updated version on this page with a new date.
