From An Animal's Angle

'From An Animal's Angle' in Zooland is the subject of zoology and the knowledge structures are themes that describe the relationships between people and other non-human animals.

So Zooland is defined as an interconnected network of spaces in which animal populations can be managed and sustained despite the threats they face in the wild. This global network of protected sites, governed by conservation management systems, is a global animal sanctuary, keeping those under threat from human activities safely until sometime in the future when they can maintain themselves. This is the essence of how modern zoos see themselves being on a par with biosphere reserves, oceanic fishing stocks and local nature sites.

In this wide perspective  Baba Dioum, a Senegalese forestry engineer, authored one of the greatest insights into the importance of education for conservation during a 1968 speech in New Delhi on Agricultural Development.  “In the end, we will conserve only what we love, we will love only what we understand and we will understand only what we’re taught.”

That is why everyone should have the opportunity to build their own body of knowledge to live sustainably in zooland and share it from an animals angle with others in a global network (Fig 1).
