Torsten Søchting Jaccard
Vancouver School of Economics
Welcome to my website! I am an Assistant Professor in the Vancouver School of Economics at the University of British Columbia. Previously I was an International Economics Postdoctoral Fellow at Dartmouth College, and I completed a PhD in Economics at the University of Toronto in 2022.
My research is primarily in international trade, with a particular focus on understanding demand for imported goods and the consumption gains from globalization.
I am originally from New Westminster, British Columbia, and I received my undergraduate degree from the University of British Columbia studying Chemical and Biological Engineering. I worked at Navius Research, Inc., an energy-economy policy modeling firm, before attending the University of Toronto to complete a Masters degree in Economics.
In the interim, I have worked as a cruise ship wastewater engineer, a tree-planter in northern British Columbia, a high school football coach, and my senior undergraduate capstone project was a small-scale water treatment plant for a remote First Nations community (now completed). I am a dual citizen of Canada and Denmark and I am fluent in French.
My complete CV is available here, as well as on my Research page, and you can contact me via e-mail (tjaccard@mail.ubc.ca).
