For more than 70 years, Howie has been a driving force behind the growth and success of baseball in Toronto and beyond. From his early days as a player to his decades of service as a coach, umpire, and administrator, he has dedicated his life to the game he loves. His leadership has been instrumental in shaping the sport at the grassroots level, ensuring opportunities for countless young athletes to develop their skills and passion for baseball. Through his tireless work with Leaside Baseball, the TBA, and the Ontario Baseball Association, Howie has made a lasting impact on the baseball community.
As a coach, Howie led teams to numerous championships, instilling in his players not only the fundamentals of the game but also the values of sportsmanship and teamwork. As an umpire, he officiated at the highest levels of amateur baseball, earning national and international recognition for his fairness and expertise. His leadership extended to administrative roles, where he served as president of multiple baseball organizations, working to strengthen and grow the game in Ontario and across Canada.
Now, as he is inducted into the Canadian Baseball Hall of Fame, we take a moment to reflect on the incredible contributions he has made to the sport. His legacy is one of unwavering dedication, selfless service, and an enduring love for baseball. Few individuals have given so much of their time and energy to ensuring the success of the game at all levels.
