1. Overview
Top Five is a mobile app that lets you curate and share your personal "Top Five" restaurant picks per city. This Privacy Policy explains what information we collect, how we use it, and how you can delete it. Top Five is an independent hobby project. We do not sell your data or share it with advertisers.
2. Information We Collect
Account information (via Sign-In)
When you sign in with Google or Apple, we receive:
Your display name
Your email address
A unique identifier from the sign-in provider
We store this in Firebase, which powers the app's backend.
Profile information (optional, you provide)
@username (user handle)
Home city
Age range
Ethnicity
These are optional fields you fill in on your profile. You can leave them blank or update them at any time.
Restaurant content you create
Top Five lists — up to 5 restaurants per city
Reviews — written notes, cuisine type, and price range per restaurant
Photos — up to 9 photos per review (stored in Firebase Storage)
Wishlist items — restaurants you bookmark as "Want to Go"
Social information
Friend connections — users you send or accept friend requests with
Group memberships — groups you create or join
Location
Approximate location — when you grant location permission, we display your position on the map. We do not store or transmit your location to our servers.
City selection
Your selected city is saved locally on your device (not sent to our servers) so the app remembers it between sessions.
3. How We Use Your Information
Name, email, user ID — Create and maintain your account
@username, home city — Display on your public profile
Age range, ethnicity — Optional demographic context for the friend Explore view
Reviews, photos, lists — Display your Top Five to you and your friends
Wishlist items — Show your personal "Want to Go" bookmarks
Friend and group data — Enable friend-filtered Explore and social features
Location (device only) — Show your position on the map
We do not use your data for advertising, profiling, or any purpose beyond operating the app.
4. Third-Party Services
Top Five uses the following third-party services, each with their own privacy policies:

5. Data Sharing
We do not sell, rent, or share your personal information with third parties for commercial purposes.
Your Top Five lists, reviews, and profile are visible to other Top Five users (your friends and, for aggregated restaurant data, all users exploring the app). Your email address is never shown to other users.
6. Data Security
All data is transmitted over HTTPS/TLS. Firebase enforces authenticated-only access — users can only read and write their own profile, reviews, photos, and lists. Photos are stored in Firebase Storage with owner-only write access.
7. Account Deletion
How to delete your account
Open the Top Five app and sign in.
Go to the Profile tab.
Scroll down to the Other section.
Tap Delete Account.
Confirm in the dialog that appears.
Deletion is immediate and permanent.
What gets deleted
When you delete your account, the following is permanently removed:
Your profile (display name, @username, home city, demographics)
Your sign-in account (Firebase Auth)
Your email address and any account identifiers
All your Top Five restaurant lists (all cities)
All your reviews and review notes
All your uploaded photos
All your friendship connections (pending and accepted)
Your group memberships (groups are deleted if you were the last member)
Your "Want to Go" wishlist items
What is not deleted
Shared restaurant records remain in the app for other users. These are community entries (based on Google Places data). Your personal reviews and data are removed from them — vote counts and aggregates are updated to reflect your removal.
Data held by Google or Apple from your sign-in session is governed by their respective policies.
Can't access the app?
If you are unable to access your account to delete it in-app, email us at topfive.support@gmail.com from the email address linked to your account, and we will manually delete your data.
8. Children's Privacy
Top Five is not directed at children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe a child has provided us with personal information, please contact us.
9. Changes to This Policy
We may update this policy as the app evolves. We will update the effective date at the top of this page when changes are made. Continued use of the app after changes constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
