Lally Walford Interiors offer a comprehensive interior design service, tailor-made to meet your specific requirements.
Our client purchased this 2 bedroom apartment in Edinburgh’s West End as a pieda terre. They live in the US and were not present for any of the work so we worked remotely with them, fine-tuning the details and managing the refurbishment in their absence.
The space required a small amount of reconfiguring in order to increase storage and create a space for a home office. We took what was a rather wasted room in the centre of the apartment, dividing it into two. One part became wardrobes that are accessible from the bedroom and the remaining part became the home office. The flooring throughout was replaced with engineered wood, with a new, much more attractive fireplace installed in the sitting room.
The decorative brief was to create a flat that was calming and pretty, and we were able to have some fun with their little boy’s bedroom, which also serves as a guest bedroom. I am happy to say that they are delighted with the result.
This was the second of three offices we designed for Nexus Creative Space and, fortunately, we were brought into the process long before building work started. The brief was simple: make this space ‘similar but different’ to number 16 which had preceded it. We took the same approach and kept the woodwork dark and the walls light for that contemporary feel, introducing interest and colour through a bespoke striped carpet that runs from the hallway all the way up the stairs and bespoke colourful wall shades in 4 bright colours. The basement was a muddle of dark rooms and this was where the ‘breakout’ room and kitchen were to be located. We brightened these up using light, bright colours and mirrors.
Our clients had already carried out a major refurbishment of this lovely 2nd floor apartment in Edinburgh’s Stockbridge area, but they had got to a stage where it wasn’t quite coming together for them and is when they called on us for our help. We worked with them to improve the rooms from both a functional and a decorative perspective by suggesting changes and additions to pieces of furniture and decorative accessories, as well as improvements to the lighting. The result was a warm, welcoming, comfortable and fabulous home.
Lally Walford and her team offer a personal and individual interior design service intent on delivering beautiful, timeless, comfortable and practical solutions. Working collaboratively with our clients, the aim is always the same: to save clients time, remove stress and uncertainty and to create a home or office that is perfectly suited to their needs and desires. Please see below for the services offered.
Designing room layouts, including kitchens and bathrooms, to make the most appropriate and efficient use of the available space; production of floor plans and elevations, design of custom-made cabinetry and assessment of storage solutions.
Carefully considered lighting that takes into account the three basic types (ambient, task and accent) is critical to any successful interior. We will make recommendations, produce electrical plans as well as source and supply appropriate light fittings.
Working collaboratively with our clients, we design room schemes that include fabrics for all soft furnishings, flooring, wall coverings, furniture, light fittings, and decorative accessories. We place and monitor orders on our client’s behalf to ensure that items, especially those with long lead time, are delivered on time.
I established Lally Walford Interiors about 15 years ago, having worked in the interiors industry since early 2000. I grew up in an interior design environment – my mother has run a successful interior design business since before I can remember – and, having worked for a few years in London at an advertising agency, I decided to train properly in interior design and commit to what I suspected that I had always wanted to do. I have worked in London, Sydney and North Yorkshire and, following our move to Scotland in 2005, have established a wonderful, loyal and ever-increasing client base both here and further afield.
