Top Gun: Maverick (Music from the Motion Picture) is the soundtrack to the 2022 action film Top Gun: Maverick by Lorne Balfe, Harold Faltermeyer, Lady Gaga, and Hans Zimmer.[1][2] It consists of the film's score as well as two original songs, "Hold My Hand" by Gaga and "I Ain't Worried" by OneRepublic, which were released as singles prior to the album.[3][4] The soundtrack contains the song "Danger Zone" by Kenny Loggins, which was also featured in the first film.[5] The soundtrack was released on May 27, 2022,[6] by Interscope Records and Paramount Music through digital and physical formats.[7][8]

By June 2017, Top Gun composer Harold Faltermeyer had returned to score for the sequel.[9][10] Later, in October 2018, Hans Zimmer joined Faltermeyer to score for the film,[1] accompanied by Lorne Balfe and Lady Gaga also joining the film later.[2] Zimmer produced a new original theme for the film that was featured in the February 2022 trailer, and was played by guitarist Johnny Marr. Marr claimed that the theme was "completely accidental"[11] and did not watch the preview of the film before scoring.[12] Speaking in an interview to Variety, Marr said "I think there was some issue with how the theme was sounding, and I was around and I have a guitar. It really was as simple as that."[12] Twenty One Pilots frontman Tyler Joseph said that their band was reported to feature in the soundtrack, before Tom Cruise ousted them. He revealed in an interview that "I was working with the music placement person for the new Top Gun on writing a new song for them, and then I believe Tom Cruise came in and just fired everyone," Tyler also noted, "It was actually pretty soon after they brought me in to show me parts of the movie and what they were looking for and stuff. Then I got word that there was like a wholesale swap."[13][14] Musician Kenny Loggins has confirmed that his song "Danger Zone", which was used in the first film, will be featured in the sequel.[5][15] "Great Balls of Fire", another song from the first film performed by Jerry Lee Lewis, was also featured in the sequel.[16] The song is performed by Miles Teller, who plays Lt. Bradley "Rooster" Bradshaw.[16]

On April 27, 2022, Gaga announced that she had written and recorded the song "Hold My Hand", which would serve as the film's theme song, in addition to producing the score.[17] Gaga said that she worked on the song for years, and "didn't even realize the multiple layers it spanned across the film's heart, my own psyche, and the nature of the world we've been living in" while writing it.[3] The song, released as a single on May 3, 2022, was co-written with Benjamin Rice and BloodPop.[18][19] Another single, "I Ain't Worried" by OneRepublic was released on May 13.[20][21] It was sent to contemporary hit radio in the United States on June 21, 2022.[22] The soundtrack album was released on May 27, 2022, by Interscope Records.[23][24]

The final track, a rendition of "Amazing Grace", is credited to the "Maverick Choir". Performers on the song are John Anderson, Archer/Park (Randy Archer and Johnny Park), Clint Black, Suzy Bogguss, Gary Chapman, Billy Dean, Radney Foster, James Garner, Mel Gibson, Amy Grant, Noel Haggard, Faith Hill, Waylon Jennings, Hal Ketchum, Tracy Lawrence, Kathy Mattea, Reba McEntire, John Michael Montgomery, Michael Omartian, Eddie Rabbitt, Restless Heart, Ricky Van Shelton, Danny Shirley (of Confederate Railroad), Larry Stewart (who at this point was not a member of Restless Heart), Joy Lynn White, and Tammy Wynette, with solos by Black, Dean, Grant, Jennings, Ketchum, Mattea, McEntire, Restless Heart, and Wynette. All royalties from this rendition were donated to the Elizabeth Glaser Pediatric AIDS Foundation. Mark Hartley and Larry Fitzgerald were the album's executive producers.[4]

When "Top Gun" arrived in 1986, it came with one of the most popular movie soundtracks to date, boasting the Oscar-winning single "Take My Breath Away" as performed by the new wave band Berlin, and two absolute bangers by Kenny Loggins, "Playing with the Boys" and "Danger Zone." The "Top Gun" soundtrack hit number one in the U.S. charts for five non consecutive weeks in 1986, was the best selling soundtrack of 1986, and is still largely considered to be one of the best movie soundtracks ever crafted. There were humongous musical shoes to fill for the sequel "Top Gun: Maverick," and there was no one other than Lady Gaga fit to fill them. During a visit to "The Late Late Show," Tom Cruise praised Gaga's song "Hold My Hand" as a worthy successor to the memorable music of the original.

Now, I know that some people may ask to take a break from the techno music, but I found this song and it just fit with my clips perfectly. I am working on a MIllenium Force Video and I found a non- techno song.

I knew the rhythm section of the tracks had to be solid, so I contacted London based drummer Matt Ingram and the following week we were working together in Urchin Studios as Mark replaced the guide drum loops. It was a magical session watching him play with such fluidity, I knew I was onto something very special. In the control room we were viewing a rough cut of the film at all times, and the juxtaposition of music and pictures was beguiling. It was very exciting pulling up each new theme and hearing what Matt could bring to it.

Since Maverick is now older and reaching the end of his career, Top Gun: Maverick could be a sadder look back on his life than the fun-focused, sunny 80s original. However, few viewers want to see a summer blockbuster about aging, death, and a growing sense of obsolescence. In many ways, the first film was defined by its now-iconic soundtrack, with several hits entering into pop-culture and helping set the movie's general tone. Given the importance of music to Top Gun: Maverick's iconic forebear, it's clear that the sequel will have to use its songs just as effectively.

Ok what is this....the same 4 seconds being played over and over.........this isn't music, well I mean technically it is, but it's awful! Granted I've never played X8 so I don't know how much of the stage is this theme is played on. Hopefully not much though because this is about as opposite of a Mega Man theme as you can get.

Ok this time you've given me what I'd "almost" consider music, however, it's more of a continue screen rather than a stage theme. And that puts both of Dark Mantis's themes in the bottom 5, so this stage must be extremely boring to listen to.

Ok I know some of you may be thinking "Why is there Mega Man X4 music this low?". Well that's just it, it's not really music. It's a few notes and noises, that's it. But before you get your hopes up let me just say now that I do not consider Mega Man X4 to have a good soundtrack based on the 8 Maverick themes. Sure none of them are as bad as this, but still...overall, I think X4 was pretty weak music wise on the 8 stages. There is 1 in particular that stands out as really enjoyable for me though...

Well at least this time you've given us some music...it's just very bad music that annoys me. Unfortunately though, the next few themes I also don't like but I put this one lower because as I said it annoys me.

Ok for starters, I have heard there are people that like this theme, and to be fair it isn't terrible like the first 4 that I listed. So I don't hate it....I just don't like it. I find that it's really lacking and is just overall very boring. While it does fit the stage well, just because it fits doesn't make it great. This theme just has wayyyyyy too many soft notes and it doesn't feel like much of a song at all outside of the 2 short repetitive strings of music that play throughout it, only the first which I could say I don't dislike.

For the X3 themes, since it has both an SNES and PSX version I will list both versions but let you know at the top which version it's rank is based on.....though for Neon Tiger it really doesn't matter as I don't like either. XD

While this isn't the only X3 theme that I dislike, it is the only one that I feel is absolutely boring. And X3 has some good music, however...while X8 may be matching original 8 in awfulness right now, X3 SURE doesn't match original 3 in epicness.

The bad thing about this theme is not only is it extremely repetitive, it doesn't even have a little start up that most themes do. It just goes right into it's repetitiveness and doesn't stop.....ugh make it stop....please...

First thing I want to say about this, is that it's a real shame that one of the best named Mavericks has such a boring song.Metal Shark PLAYER.........not that I have any idea why he has the word player in his name but it still sounds cool.

The theme itself....I really can't make any excuses for. I would say "How can you make a theme about a recycling lab sound good?", but they made Dust Man's theme sound good so yea, no excuse. His stage really should have been a watery stage with a pirate theme!

About the song though...it's actually real music o_O.....I just don't like it. There may be people who like this theme, and I really couldn't blame you if you did, so maybe I was a bit harsh saying it's returned to sucking. The only thing that puts it so low is that it's kind of like Earthrock Trilobyte's theme where it just annoys me some. Honestly though, it sounds like a really long game show theme of the future....which sounds cool, but I just don't like the song, sorry. =p.

Well, it's quite obvious now that Web Spider was not the Mega Man X4 theme that I really liked. However, I think taking into account the type of songs I've been listing so far people could have guessed that this theme would be low. =p

This theme is at least better than the other "barely music" songs that I've listed so far. This one is actually not awful, still bad, but it's just severely lacking. It seems at first like it wouldn't be a boring theme, but that's because the tempo being so fast can fool you into believing it isn't. The song has a very usable beat that could have worked well if there was just more to it. e24fc04721
