All colour tools run on your device: photos, camera frames and screen frames are analysed in memory and are never uploaded, recorded or saved by the app.
No account is required; we operate no servers and the app contains no analytics SDKs of its own.
The app shows ads through Google AdMob. The ads SDK uses the internet and processes certain data (Advertising ID, IP address, ad interactions) — see Section 3.
Cheese Quake (“we”) publishes the Color Picker app for Android (“the app”). This policy explains what the app does with data, which permissions it requests and why, and what choices you have. Questions and requests: vitaliihrabets@gmail.com.
Photos you open are selected through the Android system Photo Picker. The app receives temporary access only to the files you choose, analyses their pixels in memory to display colour values, and never modifies, uploads or shares them.
Camera frames from the live viewfinder are analysed in memory in real time to show the colour under the crosshair. Nothing is recorded, saved or transmitted; readings are labelled “as the sensor sees”.
Screen capture starts only after you accept the Android system screen-capture dialog. Frames are read in memory to sample the colour under the floating loupe; no screenshots or recordings are created. A persistent notification is shown while capture is active, and you can stop it at any time.
Colours you pick, your history (last 50 colours), palettes and settings are stored locally on your device and are deleted when you clear the app’s data or uninstall it.
Local data may be included in Android Auto Backup to your own Google account. Backups are encrypted by Android and are not accessible to us; you can disable backup in Android settings.
The app requires no account, operates no servers of ours, and contains no analytics SDKs of its own.
The app displays ads served by Google AdMob (Google Mobile Ads SDK). This is the only third-party SDK in the app and the only reason the app uses the internet.
Data AdMob may collect or process: IP address (used to infer approximate location), Advertising ID, device information (model, OS version, language, screen parameters), ad interaction data (impressions, clicks) and diagnostic information.
Purposes: serving and measuring ads, frequency capping, fraud prevention, and — where permitted — ad personalisation.
Consent: in the EEA, the UK and Switzerland a consent form (Google User Messaging Platform) is shown before ads are served. You can change your choice at any time in the app’s settings under “Privacy options”. If you decline personalisation, non-personalised ads may still be shown based on context and approximate location derived from your IP address.
Controls: you can reset or delete your Advertising ID in Android Settings → Privacy → Ads.
More about Google’s processing: Google Privacy Policy — https://policies.google.com/privacy · How Google uses information from sites and apps — https://policies.google.com/technologies/partner-sites · AdMob ad technology providers — https://support.google.com/admob/answer/9012903
INTERNET and ACCESS_NETWORK_STATE — used solely to load and measure ads (AdMob). Your images, camera and screen frames, colours and palettes are never transmitted.
CAMERA (optional) — live colour picking through the viewfinder and torch control. Requested only when you first open camera mode; frames stay in memory. Every other feature works without it.
Display over other apps (SYSTEM_ALERT_WINDOW) — shows the floating loupe bubble above other apps; requested when you enable screen picking.
Screen capture consent (MediaProjection) — not a manifest permission: Android asks for your explicit consent for each capture session.
FOREGROUND_SERVICE and FOREGROUND_SERVICE_MEDIA_PROJECTION — required by Android so screen picking can keep running, with a visible notification, while you use other apps.
Notifications (POST_NOTIFICATIONS, Android 13+) — used only to display the mandatory “screen capture active” notification.
Advertising ID (com.google.android.gms.permission.AD_ID) — merged by the ads SDK; allows access to the Advertising ID on Android 13+.
No storage or photo-library permission is requested: images reach the app only through the system Photo Picker.
We do not sell personal data. We do not share data with anyone except as described in Section 3 (Google AdMob and its certified ad technology providers). We may disclose information where required by law.
On-device data is kept until you delete it or uninstall the app. Backups are governed by your Google account settings. Data processed by AdMob is retained under Google’s policies linked in Section 3.
Depending on your region (for example, under the GDPR or UK GDPR) you may have rights of access, correction, deletion, restriction, objection, portability, and the right to complain to a supervisory authority. Because we hold no personal data on servers of our own, most requests concern data processed by Google — the controls in Section 3 are the fastest route. You can also email us and we will help.
The app is not directed at children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children. If you believe a child has provided personal data through the app, contact us and we will assist in addressing it.
Colour processing happens locally on your device. Network traffic is limited to ad serving and is carried over encrypted connections.
We will post any updates on this page and change the effective date above. Material changes will be reflected in the app’s store listing where appropriate.
