about the artist

Hello, I am Tonya Rose Kirby, a painter and art teacher in Annapolis, Maryland. My oil paintings are illustrative, colorful, and document my view of our beautiful community. 

I've recently felt the pull to create for myself; to simply enjoy the act of making things, practice my skills, and contribute to the world of painting that I am forever enamored with. In the extra hours that working moms don't have I've squeezed in time to make a dozen or so oil paintings. Now my basement is full and I'm excited to share the work with others and participate in local shows and events. 

The work, primarily oil on wood or canvas, is illustrative and documents moments in time, glimpses into my perspective of the world. I have always loved how a singular image can transport a viewers imagination instantly and how colors and brush strokes can speak in place of words.
