This was the first spread I worked on for Pubs and It was hella fun. My spread partner Ava Estilaei and I, had to make sure this spread was fire since we both are cross country runners. We knew from the jump what needed to be in and what the main story would be about, since we were well aware of the highlights of the season. From there production of this spread was straightforward with little to no struggles. For me the only struggle I faced was writing the main body copy, due to it being the first time I had written one ever. I had written sports articles for Journalism but body copy is a different gravy. I had to learn how to balance what I wanted to highlight with being as concise as possible. It took a few revisions but I managed to write a pretty decent first body copy.
The process of interviewing was easy because we knew everyone on the team and knew who would give us good quotes and who wouldn't. The process of gathering photos was also easy because we had team photographers(the parents) that took photos at almost every meet and sent them to us via email.
After we placed everything on the spread, Ava designed everything and it made the spread look amazing. I genuinely think this spread is top 10 for spreads in the 2025/26 yearbook.
This spread i'm really proud of because we had just two weeks to work on it and track season had just begun at the time so we didn't have much to go off of for it. For this season all the track meets were away, so that meant photos of it would be limited and that only people on the team could feasibly take the photos. Me who was already a member of the track team and a photographer took it upon myself to take photos for the spread. So that meant balancing running and competing in the meet with taking all of the photos for the spread. There were times I had just run an event(1600m or 800m) and immediately following I had to run back up to the bleachers and grab my camera and go shoot the next running event. With sweat drowning my eyes and my muscles on the edge of cramping I pushed through and photographed the events that followed mine. I shot two meets for the spread and ran 5 events in that span, I only managed to get one PR. So I low-key sacrificed my running performance for the spread. But It was worth it, I got the photos I needed and a few in which I consider in the realm of the best shots i've taken over the 2025/26 school year.
Once we had photos and two meets to base the spread off of, the production was straightforward. My spread partner Miguel Alvarez and I determined who would be featured in the spread and how it would be laid out/designed. We interviewed various people on the team based on the results of track meets, then wrote the main story/copy as well as figuring out and creating the mods and sidebar. From there, Miguel worked on the design elements which are top notch while I imputed the photography, mod photos, quotes and wrote the captions.
