The first album that brought Bruno Mars to the mainstream came out on October 4th, 2010, and was met with lots of praise as an amazing pop album. The now diamond-certified album was headlined by the great single Just The Way You Are. To this day, this is one of my favorite pop albums of the 2010s and stands out as a phenomenal album that stands out from its time.

Runaway Baby
And what makes it the best
When people think of Bruno Mars, people tend to typically think of his many pop songs or the stuff he made with Silk Sonic. For me, though, his most underrated songs are the ones that feature his amazing talent for making funk songs. The key song on this album that fits that is Runaway Baby. The track has a classic feel to the song that helps it breathe new life into a funk song from the 2100s. The song has gone on to influence many bands today with its iconic vocal backings to his killer voice and the iconic bass lines that play in the song. The song talks about how the singer is a playboy-type character and can never stick with one girl. He talks about how the girls should go and run away because if they’re in for romance, he isn’t the one they should be running to. The vocals are outstanding, phenomenal and shows an expert level of skill in their instruments. The song itself is a show of peak skill in total.
The Lazy Song
And what makes it the worst
The songs on the album stand out from each other with how good they all are. They all deserved to be on the album and were intentionally made, all except one. The Lazy Song was made as a sort of joke song that wasn’t supposed to be good, and it ended up being a good song, but it shows how it was supposed to be. The song feels like it wasn’t taken seriously but ended up becoming a good song despite that fact. The lyrics are incredibly generic as they describe the feeling of wanting to do nothing all day and just be lazy, as the title would suggest. The song's backing is good for the song, though, with its iconic whistle being used and the guitar creating lots of room to harmonize with the vocals. The vocals themselves are great, as always from Bruno Mars, and the melodies that it creates help it to be the iconic song that it has become to the fans. To state once more, the song is good, just the worst on the album because of the generic lyricism and repetitive chorus.
Final Rating
The first studio album of the massive super pop sensation Bruno Mars was met with a big boom of fans. The album blew up under songs like The Lazy Song and Grenade. Today, the album is one of the best pop albums of the 2010s, with it reaching as high as 2x diamond certification in Indonesia and multi-platinum in a lot of other countries. The album is a great collection of pop hits, funk tracks, and even a few R&B songs that propel the album to an amazing collection of songs to start his career.
