Sekafi/Sape Player
Meet Daniel Iban boy all the way from Sibu, Sarawak, who fell in love with this traditional Borneo boat lute at the age of 18. In Kota Kinabalu's thriving music scene, he's a dynamic performer who blends the Sape/Sekafi heritage with a myriad of musical genres. Beyond local gigs, Daniel graces national and international stages, introducing audiences worldwide to the mesmerizing sounds of Borneo. His commitment to preserving traditional music shines through his involvement in the Sabah Sekafi Movement, dedicated to safeguarding the Sekafi instrument's heritage among the Lundayeh tribe.
Bassist
Rojan, a bass player with a heart that beats to the rhythm of music. From the age of 16, Rojan has been passionately plucking the strings of his bass guitar, crafting grooves that make your soul dance. Beyond his performances at local club, gigs, battles and actively in different genres of music scene in Kota Kinabalu, he is the proud owner of "KKMP Studio," a sanctuary where musicians unite to create pure sonic bliss and musical dreams come to life.
Guitarist
Amenk, the strings sorcerer of Tompuvan, proudly calls the tip of Borneo, Kudat, his home. His musical odyssey began at the age of 9, mastering both electric guitar and bass. Today, Amenk shines as the lead guitarist of Tompuvan. With a vast repertoire of experiences in the Sabah music industry, he has served as a sessionist musician for local artists, played a pivotal role as an arranger, and lent his magic touch as a guitarist for the production of Sabahan songs. Beyond that, Amenk holds the esteemed position of Music Director for Pentarama Sabah and has been awarded a silver medal in recognition of his talents at MCOPA.
Saxophonist
Wan G, the saxophone virtuoso from Kalabakan, Tawau, and a proud Tidung boy, discovered his musical passion in 2018. His extraordinary talent has led to numerous invitations to perform solo and as a session musician in various locations and countries across Malaysia. Wan G's musical versatility encompasses jazz, big band/ska music, orchestral pieces, and traditional fusion. As a composer, he infuses creativity into the Tompuvan team's musical endeavors. .
Drummer
Wan, the heartbeat of Tompuvan, hails from Kg Likas, Kota Kinabalu. His musical adventure began at the age of 13, initially exploring traditional drums and a full drum set. However, it was his love for percussion instruments, such as the djembe and Cajon has become his driving force. Wan's experience as a session drummer in Kota Kinabalu has exposed him to a wide spectrum of musical styles and genres, making him an indispensable member of Tompuvan, contributing to our unique rhythm, groove and bringing a unique rhythmic flavor to Tompuvan.
Percussionist
Nandy, the rhythmic powerhouse of Tompuvan, hails from Pitas, Sabah. His expertise extends to various Borneo traditional instruments, including the kulintangan, flute, tungkungon, Djembe, sompoton and a myriad of percussion instruments. Nandy’s active engagement in cultural performances across Sabah has nurtured his talent and experience, allowing him to craft captivating rhythms and beats that define the captivating essence of Tompuvan's music. .
keyboardist
Boboy, the youngest talent on our team, hails from Kudat and has been making music magic since he was just 10 years old. With keyboard, bass, and electric guitar in his repertoire, he has captivated audiences through street performances in Kota Kinabalu. His collaborative ventures with bands of different genres have molded him into a versatile musician, bringing a unique flavor to the Tompuvan ensemble.
