I am a philosopher of mind interested in all things consciousness. Although I am not hostile to more traditional philosophical approaches, I prefer to do philosophy in a naturalized fashion. Philosophy and science have much to offer to each other. Let's have the best of both worlds! Good philosophy of consciousness must be deeply informed by science.
I mainly work on the nature and material realization of qualitative mental states, and the difference between conscious and unconscious processing. I have also published on conceptual relativism, ontological realism, and free will.
I am head of the Department of Analytic Philosophy at the Institute of Philosophy of the Czech Academy of Sciences.
I serve on the International Relations Committee of the Philosophy of Science Association (PSA) and on the Steering Committee of the East European Network for the Philosophy of Science (EENPS).
From September 2022 to September 2024 I coordinated the activities of the European Philosophy of Language and Mind Network.
