Privacy Policy for Tomato Timeout
Effective Date: June 30, 2025
This Privacy Policy describes how Tomato Timeout ("the Extension," "we," "us," or "our") collects, uses, and protects information when you use our Chrome extension. We are committed to transparency and to safeguarding your privacy.
1. Data We Do Not Collect
Tomato Timeout is designed with your privacy as a top priority. We explicitly state that we do not collect, store, or transmit any personally identifiable information (PII) about our users. This includes, but is not limited to:
Your name, email address, or any other contact information.
Your Browse history (beyond what is strictly necessary for the site blocking feature, as explained below).
Any content from the websites you visit.
Your IP address or device information.
Any usage statistics or analytics related to your interaction with the extension or your Browse habits.
2. How Information is Used (Locally Stored Data Only)
The only "data" handled by Tomato Timeout is the configuration information you provide directly within the extension's settings. This includes:
Your custom Pomodoro work and break durations: (e.g., 25 minutes work, 5 minutes break).
Your long break settings: (e.g., long break duration, number of cycles before a long break).
Your list of blocked websites: The URLs you add to your blocklist.
This information is stored exclusively on your local device (within your Chrome browser's local storage) and is never sent to our servers or any third party. It is used solely for the purpose of enabling the Extension's features as you've configured them. When you remove the Tomato Timeout extension from your browser, all this locally stored data is automatically deleted.
3. Permissions and Their Justification
Tomato Timeout requires certain permissions to function. We only request the minimum necessary permissions to provide its features:
"Access your data for all websites": This permission allows Tomato Timeout to identify when you are attempting to visit a website on your pre-defined blocklist during a focus session. It is strictly used for the purpose of blocking access to those specific sites and does not allow us to read, collect, or transmit any content from the websites you visit or your Browse data.
"Read and change your Browse history": This permission is essential for the site blocking and unblocking functionality. When a website is blocked, the extension temporarily redirects your browser. During break times, it unblocks these sites by removing the redirection. We do not read or store your Browse history, nor do we access any sensitive information about the websites you visit beyond what is needed to identify and manage the blocking state of URLs you have explicitly added to your blocklist.
"Display notifications": This permission enables Tomato Timeout to send you timely alerts for the start and end of work sessions, short breaks, and long breaks. These notifications are critical for guiding your Pomodoro workflow and are the sole purpose for this permission.
4. Data Security
Since Tomato Timeout does not collect or transmit any user data, the primary security measures relate to the local storage of your preferences. Your settings and blocklist are stored securely within your Chrome browser's local storage mechanism, which is protected by your browser's own security features.
5. Changes to This Privacy Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. Any changes will be posted on this page with an updated "Effective Date." We encourage you to review this Privacy Policy periodically for any changes. Your continued use of the Extension after any modifications indicates your acceptance of the updated Privacy Policy.
